Here were the odds at the start.
US +175(bet $100 win $175)
Spain +200
France +450
Japan +750
Australia +900
German +1000
Brazil +1000
Canada +1400
Columbia +2500
Nigeria +5000
Zambia +10,000
New Zealand +10,000

So even with all the gloom and doom, “the world has caught up” and we’re not technical enough and don’t develop players and the team is playing favorites, with weak opponents, the US is STILL the favorite to win a gold medal? Maybe it’s not as bad as the haters say

The Olympic is not high level soccer. Look at the field German, Japan and France have not been relevant for years. Anyone who followed soccer would say this is an incredibly weak field even for the Olympics. They should make it like the men’s side 23 and under.

Haters gonna hate

Do you get tired moving the goalposts so much?

Why isn't it 23 and U like the mens?

Because it's off cycle from the major tournaments (and probably because the athletes benefit more from the olympic exposure and are released to play vs club for the men).

International women's soccer is not as developed to make the Olympics U23.

people like that never do, no.

Calling the tournament weak by naming the number 2, 4 and 7 teams in the world is simply trolling at this point.

I mean seriously, seven of the top nine teams in the world are in the Olympic field. It’s easily the second most competitive tournament in the world for women’s soccer and it’s not particularly close.

Yep. The men aren’t going to jump right into a mother major tournament coming off the heels of the Euros and Copa. Plus, club play is ramping up.

Yeah, the game is harder when you don’t have your opponent’s game plan.

So in the end it’s just a kickball goal. The finish was great though (the defending was poor).

Thoughts on this game

-we struggled without Davidson. Hopefully she’s back next game and it looks likely we’ll be missing Fox

- we were not able to get the ball to front line smith Rodman Swanson enough

-horan and Albert don’t work in the midfield. Horan specifically is not playing well- slow, missing tons of balls, not advancing play. How she is captain is beyond me. She is never impressive (speaking over the past few months). Granted I don’t watch her play with Lyon but I’ve watched every single uswnt game this year, and she shouldn’t have made this roster, let alone start and play 90

-our players look exhausted. Emma should have made multiple subs for the AUS game when we had already qualified for next round. Massive error. Now our starters have too many minutes, it shows, and they’re playing again Tuesday

Beautiful ball from Dunn, exquisite touch from Trinity to bring it down before turning the defender inside out with sublime skill, and then a wonderful left-footed strike into the far top corner. Hell of a sequence and great finish!

Yeah don’t know about that. That is not a high probability shot and it is certainly not the shot you want her to taking all the time. A great skill and exquisite touch is not her game. It is more like an exhausted player get lucky against other tired players. The US physically beat up the smaller Japanese all day. The longer the game goes the more this impacts the smaller players.

The take away is the US is not a technical skilled team, has weaknesses in midfield and defense but plays a strong, athletic and physical game. They will beat 90% of the team with that. The one person who does not fit in is Rose Lavelle. She just does not fit this team. It would be interesting to see another player that is a better style of play fitin her place.

Credit for the win goes to Hayes putting the players in the right places, play your style and grind it out. Though I think the US would have won in a shootout.
