Women’s Olympic soccer

The US should cruise through the group. It is a very weak group. Maybe get a test in the final?

Wut?

Germany is 4 in the world (ahead of the US) and Australia is 12th. Zambia may have the best striker on earth.

Both are over rated specially the Germans. I would not put much in to the rankings. US should easily advance as the winner of the group. As for Zambia they play a similar style to the US and the US is the best at that style of play. So the US players will be very comfortable in defense, midfield and going forward.
The only style match up that may give the US problem is Australia. The Germans favor physical athletic play. Again that’s the US’s bread and butter.

How'd that world class striking go today? 🫠

Germany is the only actual challenge the USA has in the group stage. And all the comments I've seen is shock at how poorly they played against Australia and lucky they are the score didn't reflect it.

Nice to have the easy practice game out of the way. Now the real competition starts.

We could have done better, the other team was down a player.

I mean only 3-0 v 10 players from Zambia. Should have crushed them if stronger say 5-0 or something. Kinda like France who just won v Columbia unlucky and down a player with good time left. You gotta go all out in a major tournament.

They clearly took their feet off the gas after the red card.
They did fine 11 on 11.

We tried to watch, it was awful. Zambia down 3-0 and could t string two passes together. Several Zambia players first touches were rec league. Defenders panicking even though they weren’t being pressed.

After watching Copa and Euros I’m not impressed with Olympic soccer, men’s or women’s so far.

11 v 10 is can be surprisingly more difficult than 11v11

First, it’s rarely practiced. Second, the added space on the field often leads to one of the 11 sort of getting lost and jamming their own team.

To be sure it was 3-0 when the red card was shown just before the half. Maybe they just didn’t run up the score.

Trinity Rodman had a nice goal, but a fairly awful match. I cannot believe we can’t find a better right winger in all of the US - awful footwork, poor passing and receiving, and just missing some very basic winger football IQ. Emma Hayes (and the NT) needs to see Rodman take her role more seriously. Just sloppy.

Lindsey Horan just looks too slow for the current team. While she is great 6 in a slow technical team, it seems like she’s either lost a step, injured or is out of match shape.

Girma had some super smart recoveries to save some dumb wing coverage. I was surprised by her mistakes there. But, it’s Girma, she recovered well.

Crystal Dunn! Wow, she had a positive impact for the first time in maybe 3 years or so. Hayes is clearly setting her up in a role she can help the team. Nice to see her back in international form.

Rest of the team played pretty well - much much better overall that WC. This is a team that seems to know what they are doing. Would have liked to seen some cleaner passes, but overall solid performance.

Rodman was selfish and could have easily passed to an open teammate clearly running into open space. She's lucky she scored. Glad she has toned down the theatrics though.

Uh, Canada is the real story today.

Rodman needs to go.
