The USWNT was dominant because the rest of the world didn’t invest in women’s soccer. Now that they do they are so far incrementally on the decline.

You need balance for technical skills but not straight line speed. We’ve had plenty of technical players on our kids’ teams that get beat trying to stop a breakaway.

You can’t teach speed. It’s something a kid either has or doesn’t have. Technical ability can be taught. So I say look for natural speed with skills potential over someone slow with already strong foot skills.

Every Olympic sprinter has a coach
So do College sprinters
So do HS sprinters

Why? Because increasing speed can be taught and is taught.
What can't be done is turn a 6 into 10
But you can make a 6 an 8

That said, since there is a ball, soccer IQ and decision making on and off the ball involved.... speed without the ball has limited applications
