- At the U12 age, faster kids can and will blow by most kids instead of using technical moves. Technical abilities are more important as everyone evens out on size/speed.
- Endurance in this case is your ability to hold at tempo for entire match. - You definitely can make a someone more "speedy" through training. There is an upper echelon, but most kids at the U12 age aren't trained at things like intervals and proper biomechanical usage to optimize their running and motion. - You don't need to be the fastest, but you need to be consistently fast and quick if you intend on top level performances as you get older. At the U12 age, speed can set you apart from your peers easily. |
I did, too, and DC inevitably chose a sport they started at a young age with good coaching because kids like to do the things they are good at. Sure, we explored other things, but I wouldn't underestimate our role as we provided the right opportunities for them to succeed. |
