Thanks, Payne is closer but L-T generally seems to be considered a better school. However PARCC scores are higher at Payne according to myschooldc.org website.

As a long time Payne parent, I can say all grades have great teachers, but the older grades are some of the strongest, which I know isn't always the case. They have also gotten recognition for doing a better job than other schools in achievement across all sub groups (still a lot of growth across all schools in DCPS).
But they are both good options, I have heard great things about LT too.

LT feeds to Stuart Hobson. Good backup for the 5th grade lottery.

Anonymous wrote:Shut out for everything in PK3 with super high waitlist numbers. I know it's a lottery but I didn't think we'd do so bad all around.

Number 1 - 160
Number 2- 234
Number 3- 368
Number 4- 370

If you really want the free day care there are likely still schools you can get into with post-lottery applications. Though, if you only applied to four schools, then it sounds like you weren't counting on sending your kid to PK3.

The thing about the lottery is that either it's a good year or a bad year. This was a bad year for you.

This is great to hear. All the parents I know with children at Payne speak very highly of it.

That’s definitely not correct. You’re reading it wrong. Payne’s scores are very good for demographics, but L-T’s are better across the board…

Slightly strange results. I have twins and for the several schools they were both waitlisted at they have very close numbers:
Twin A school 1 waitlisted 39th
Twin B school 1 waitlisted 41st

Twin A school 2 waitlisted 76th
Twin B school 2 waitlisted 79th

Twin A school 3 waitlisted 112th
Twin B school 3 waitlisted 115th

Neither were admitted to any of these so it's not sibling offered preference or anything like that. Is this just a weird coincidence that both ended up with really close master numbers? This is for pk3 and they're in at our inbound, Noyes.

Yes, it's a weird coincidence. Usually one of your twins will get a great or at least really good number.

PP here- we applied to eight schools and were shut out of all that we applied to, I just stopped listing after four. Our kiddo goes to a nursery school at out temple now and we're happy there, so we'll keep going there and then see what happens next year, and try for privates (see if we get any aid), or move. I was just not expecting to do bad all around. Again, I know it's a lottery....but I was expecting something I guess.

Waitlisted # 3 at payne for PK3 with in-boundary preference. Any thoughts on our chances? Not the end of the world to not get in, but hoping for some good luck with the waitlist.

There's a ton of movement in the PK3 wait lists because a lot of people stay in their daycare for PK3 in the end. You may still get in to something.

I mean, the way the lottery works is that you essentially have one "draw", and you get matched based on that draw. So if your draw is poor (unlucky) and you only put schools on your list that are in very high demand, you'll have high waitlist numbers everywhere. That's how the system is designed to work.

You’ll get in. For sure.
