Are Catholic privates less flaunty about wealth vs independent privates?

The one thing I have noticed at our NOVA catholic school is the difference in the cars or presumed wealth of the parents at drop off in comparison to the cars at after care pickup. There are a lot fewer luxury cars among those of us rushing to pick up by 5pm!

I definitely notice this stuff and I am sure others do as well. And those that actually care more about these things seem to flock together.

A lot of the working wealthy/UMC drive Toyotas and Hondas, you know? Your ignorance is showing.

Your tired old wasp wannabe ignorance is showing. These rich brash Catholic families with kids playing expensive travel sports and golf and equestrian are not driving old Hondas and Toyotas. Feds who can barely afford their mortgage are driving old Hondas and Toyotas.

WTH? Why are you so triggered by what others spend their money on?

My kids go to our parish school in a Honda but we could drive a fancier car if we cared. I am not intimidated by other families’ cars, it’s probably a mix. We don’t golf or have horses. I wouldn’t describe anyone in our community as “rich and brash” so I wonder if your opinion is based more about the Catholics in your immediate community.

Their opinion is based on their dislike of Catholics because they are Catholic.

Yes I know. Now go ahead and ask me how I know.

The point is that there is a big variety of wealth and perceived wealth. The only pattern I have noticed is among those who make use of the schools after care. And even then, there is still a mix.

WTF?!?? Catholic school parents in the DMV are the worst!!!!

How is this different from any other discussion on this board about wealth and private schools? Wasn't there just a long thread a few months ago about the physical appearance of private school moms (vague recollection of a reference to Cartier love bangles)? This is a question of Catholic school parents vs independent school parents being flaunty. Yes its shallow. Yes its annoying. And yes its just a part of the culture here and I imagine in other major cities.

But also you don't know how much they paid for them. We have a 2010 Lexus that we paid $18k for in 2019. It was low mileage and in excellent condition. Sometimes it's cheaper to get a low-mileage used luxury than a newer non-luxury if you like all the bells and whistles. Adding on upgrades to non-luxury gets expensive.

No one mentioned a Lexus.

Again, ignorance. LOL

Umm, the two feds I know who are married - one makes $220k and the other is hovering around $205k in a beautiful home they bought 15 years ago with a great interest rate. They are doing better than me and my colleagues in private industry. In fact, we go to the bargain basement parish school and their kids are in top expensive Catholic schools. Did you find this thread on recent threads? It feels like you are pulling info. out of your a$$.

Lexus gives “I have a couple of advanced degrees and a well paying job.”

The other cars give, “I’m spending someone else’s’ money (either mommy and daddy or a spouses’) and I need attention”
