Private & Independent Schools
| I thought they were perceived to be? But that doesn't seem to mesh with the pickup line at the closest Catholic grade school, which is practically all moms and dads in luxury SUVs. |
| Some do, some don't. There is no "one type fits all" to schools. |
| At our Catholic school we have a few truly wealthy families but they aren’t the ones who flaunt it. Most families seem to be solidly middle or upper middle class. |
|
Well, if being "less flaunty" is based on the car one drives, or the house/neighborhood one lives in, then it depends on the Parish. The schools in the more upscale towns have a higher percentage of people with expensive cars than those in less "tony" towns or neighborhoods.
The Catholic population has lots of professionals (doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc). successful small business owners, real estate developers and entreprenuers. Your question seems to suggest that your stereotype of Catholics might not reflect the entire community. |

All the biggest homes in my 20015 neighborhood have big Gonzaga flags flying out front. Also along Connecticut Ave in Town of Chevy Chase.
So, not every Catholic school family is discreet and humble, no |
| It can even depend class to class. My oldest DC’s grade had down to earth, devout families (with stay at home moms and plenty of money) but not flashy. My youngest has a class full of country club types, nicer cars, very flashy. |
| I have a fun game I play. Try to find a Cadillac SUV that does not have a Catholic school magnet on the back. |
All are perceived to be one way, huh. There's a word for that. |
Gonzaga is an independent private like stone ridge, etc. I think OP is asking about parochial schools. |
OP said catholic, are you saying Gonzaga isn't Catholic |
She said “catholic privates” vs “independent privates”. Gonzaga is an independent Catholic school so could fall into either bucket. Parochial schools are very different from independent schools whether Catholic or not. |
| I’d be surprised if an parish elementary school except maybe in a very wealthy neighborhood was into flaunting wealth. Are they actually luxury SUVs or just big cars? Catholic families with a bunch of kids need big vehicles. |
Huge difference between Gonzaga and a parish elementary with tution so low families with 5-6 kids can send them. |
|
I see so many moms, dads, and kids driving very expensive makes and models with the “Don’t Thread On Me” plates. What does that have to do with Catholicism?
They drive like maniacs. |
| Define ‘luxury SUVs’. |
