Well. That’s one way for Putin to get out of the conscription conundrum.

Guess he had to wait for his “election” to be over.

If Russians want a different future, they are going to need to find some courage to change things.

FSB will blame the attack on Ukrainians and Russians will believe this.

It's the same script that Putin used to invade Chechnya.

I am no fan of Putin but come on. Chechnya is and was part of Russia. Ukraine was given independence in 1991. I beg to differ!

Russia colonized Chechnya in the 1800s. They still speak their own language and have their own customs and traditions and religion.

What a ridiculous response.
It’s been part of Russia since, duh! It’s like saying the U.S. invaded TX

NP here. You clearly don’t know your history to give Texas as an example!

Russia has made so many enemies, it could literally be any number of groups.

I have a very hard time feeling any sympathy for them.

So you are saying it’s the Ukrainians?

Ukrainians? Russia has pissed off a LOT of different groups.

Any state or territory would be a bad example. Thanks for proving my point.
You can’t invade something that has become part of a country long ago. Case closed.

It’s ok, your sympathy not required

So apparently they found the perpetrators who are from Tajikistan. What makes it sus is that they had their passports with them (what’s up with that?) and quoted a pretty small amount of money as a reward.
Yes all of the -stans are being “seduced” with Islam right now, but this whole thing seems far fetched and like some sort of pretext for something.

Soon after the attack, photos of the passports of some the alleged attackers were shared online.

The Tajik minister of the interior was quick to put out a statement saying that, in at least two cases, the men in question could not be responsible as they had been in Tajikistan for months and had credible alibis.

All of this shows that, more than 12 hours after the attack, confusion still abounds.

Well, more like if the U.S. had broken up in 1991 and we let California, Arizona and New Mexico go but then pulled Texas back in via a bloody war and an installed strongman despot governor. And if Texas primarily spoke a different language, practiced a different religion and was viewed as different race from the eastern U.S. then it would be more like that. Have you ever heard Muscovites talk about chechens? It is not nice. When I went to Russia, I was expecting anti semitism. The vast majority of Muscovite’s had no problem with Jews (and really envied the right of return as it was an easy way to leave Russia) but if they got started on Chechens or Muslims, it was pretty awful to hear. They blamed everything on them. I don’t hear people in DC talking about Texas that way!

Also that you shouldn’t believe anything the Russian government says.

ISIS has claimed responsibility and posted pictures that were taken before the gunmen left.

And I have a bridge to sell you.

Russia always “catches the perpetrators” who invariably travel with their passports so they can be quickly identified. They always immediately confess.

And there’s always some other interest behind the atrocity.

Chechnya wasn’t a republic unlike the other 14 that were let go. So I stand corrected there in comparing it to a state. More like if a district or area suddenly wanted to be “independent”.

As for the talk about Chechens, unfortunately it’s well deserved. Of course there are good, educated people, but many of them emigrated early on. The vast majority is very backwardly religious and uneducated and/or are thugs. Sorry, the normal people of Chechnya!
As for not letting them go - the process had to stop somewhere and it was best to nip it in the bud before other autonomous regions started to have ideas.

This will be used to discredit the mini terrorist groups that are pro Ukrainian and allegedly support “free Russia”. Just like it was with Chechen separatists (they weren’t nice people but it cemented their bad reputation).
Also it will be used as a pretext for strengthening the Belarus- Ukraine border and taking further steps towards a “union state” with Belarus as Lukashenko grows weaker and older.
Also probably even tougher restrictions inside Russia but that should not be too much of a concern to international players.

Who stands to gain? That’s always the question.

The SVR, SOBR, GRU and FSB are tasked to find a bear who's been terrorizing the woods.

The SVR sends into the woods a female bear in heat, but the female bear runs off with the bear.

The SOBR enter the woods and after a few explosions, return with videos of empty woods.

The GRU poisons the woods, but only find dead deer and chipmunks.

The FSB goes into the woods, and drags out a rabbit in a bear suit screaming "I'm a bear! I'm a bear!"
