I don't like sunken living rooms. You're not getting that much more ceiling height and having to step down just interrupts the flow of the room with the rest of the house. They always seem to be next to the dining room, which means you can't expand your table for holidays into the living room.

When we were house hunting, I turned right around if we walked into a house with a sunken living room.

As did we. Stove events are supposed to vent outside. Did not like that ours did not.

definitely -- my last house had a walkout basement. I hated that I couldn't walk into the backyard from the main level.
