I’m a 50 yr old white guy, live in Chevy Chase Village, drive an older, expensive car in pristine condition, drive very sedately, and I’ve been pulled over twice in the last year for window tint despite my Florida tags (where the car is titled and tagged) ..

Cops in MoCo are indeed still pulling people over for minor things. Just not black people.

Oh, so you’re doing the six-month thing. So many of your fellow “Floridians” at Chevy

I own a home here in Maryland and another in Florida, where I’m a resident. What’s your beef with that?

And yes, I’m former .mil MacDill AFB was my final positing before I retired, and our kids love Florida, so we stayed.

What’s your issue with people from Florida? You sound like an unhinged a-hole.

Hey, maybe they pulled you over BECAUSE OF your Florida tags.

No, it’s definitely the window tint. They told me so when they stopped me. Showed them the certificate sticker on the door frame for being legal in Florida, the car is registered and insured in FL, and I’m a FL resident. But we own a house here in MD too. We’re just not MD residents.

So yes, MoCo cops are still pulling people over for small stuff. They’re just not pulling everyone over for it.

With your tinted windows, how would the cops know the skin color of the person who's driving the car?

Not to mention: was it the Chevy Chase Village police who pulled you over?

It’s not dark enough to not be able to see the driver or inside the car. And Chevy Chase Village doesn’t have a police force. You’re thinking the town of Chevy Chase. Chevy Chase Village is farther up Connecticut Ave, on the west side, past Saul Rd, across from Kensington.

+100
I can't believe what I just read in the OP. Montgomery Co. is one of the most extreme far-left bastions in the country.

And?? We are proud of it too.

I'm glad. And also glad I never have cause to go there.

Believe me, absolutely no one wants you here.

Then it's truly a win-win!

Somebody should watch less Fox45.

So you're saying people should stop listening to the local news because reporting on Baltimore's high crime reflects poorly on you/the state of MD. Wow.

Springfield?

…Is a perfectly nice small city that happens to be much, much safer than Baltimore. Have you actually been there?

Your description of Springfield Mass. as a “perfectly nice small city” suggests you haven’t been there either.

It’s my hometown. What’s your connection with it that you think it’s so terrible?

NP. Springfield is also my hometown. Calling it a Mayberry-esque "perfectly nice small city" is ludicrous. Springfield lost its industrial base decades ago and has been battling high poverty, high crime, crumbling infrastructure, urban blight, and terrible schools ever since. The city has come close to bankruptcy at least once and a casino declared to be downtown's savior has done little to turn things around. Boston gives two sh*ts about anything west of I-495 and largely ignores Springfield's needs along with the needs of some of its hollowed-out industrial neighbors like Chicopee and Holyoke.

Also, comparing Springfield with Baltimore is stupid. They're not in the same league. With that said, some parts of Springfield's North End rivals parts of West Baltimore and Pimlico.

It just seems that angry populism and demagoguery is taking over the world. This may sound elitist but I don't care: I am grateful to be surrounded by educated, smart, level-headed people who elect politicians who are also educated, smart, and level-headed.

Yes, one can complain about Maryland for its taxes and traffic and occasional bureaucratic hangups in local government. Yes I'm aware of MCPS scandals and crime, but none of these problems aren't things you come across elsewhere. Sure, we could do better, and people know that, and they go out there and elect people to do better. Sometimes it's disappointing. But it's always sane and normal. MAGAs don't win here. We elect rational adults from with enough ideological diversity from Hogan to Raskin. People here believe in the rule of law, a functional democracy, that vaccines work, that public health is important and not a mind-control conspiracy, that public education is not woke indoctrination, and we believe in regulated free-market capitalism with empathy those down on their luck.

It's great to be in a place where conspiracy theories are not the norm, where people don't worship dictators who hate America, where people actually love this country and its values. It's not a one-party state either, it's that the MAGA party doesn't get very far. Hogan Republicans do. And the Democrats we elect are not the wild-eyed Squad types and not populist left-wing demagogues either (Elrich notwithstanding). While Maryland may be to the left of most of the country politically by US standards, I would really say we're ideologically the most moderate and sensible on a global scale.

i bet you would make for a tasty kebab in your gun free zone once power starts failing from your climate policies

I moved from Maryland to Loudoun and like it here more but I vote republican.

Cops not allowed to pull over people for some violations while driving, like dark tinted windows because it impacts mostly certain groups.
Repeat violent kids allowed back in schools because it impacts mostly certain groups, but also hurts that same group the most.
Allowing illegal immigrant criminals to roam free on our streets, mostly impacts lower/middle income people.

Moco is way too soft on crime. If it wasn't so soft on crime, I might agree with you.

Is this stuff true? That’s super disappointing to hear. I am a DC resident and was thinking about moving to Moco bc this place is a sh!tshow.
