Teachers not standing for pledge

Anonymous
I don't really care one way or the other whether the pledge of allegiance is done in our public schools. But what I find very distressing is everyone's apparent disdain for it and their accompanying lack of respect for the symbols of our country, or just their lack of patriotism. No, you don't have to put your hand over your heart and profess "under God" to be patriotic; but displaying indifference and lack of respect is not patriotic. So, are you all against being patriotic or just don't think there's any good reason for displaying patriotism or loyalty to the country? What makes someone patriotic?

Actually understanding our system of government.

Being an informed voter and active participant in public policy debates.

Knowing and studying our country’s history and understanding why our democracy and institutions are important.

Reading the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and other founding documents like the Federalist Papers.

The list goes on. Reciting a chant isn’t particularly high on the list.

The teacher is a fascist, teach your kids that and teach them to do better.

Voting and paying your taxes.

Performative and empty patriotism is gross.

It's not like the US represents this pledge since the facists took over anyhow.

"Liberty and justice for all" certainly sounds like a sick joke these days.

I emailed the governor and WJLA!
Hopefully they respond

Teachers, like students, are not required to stand or recite the pledge. They are to remain respectful, though.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not permitted to pledge to the flag, so if a teacher is JW, or possibly other religions, as well, they do not stand for the pledge, nor do they recite it.

Why would the governor or WJLA care about this?

(Yes, I realize this OP is well over a year old, but this topic keeps being rehashed, so I'm responding to the OP.)

it's not a joke at all - the only problem is that illegal immigrants and other criminals don't like the justice they are getting!

+1

With the oligarchs stealing directly from the people with the help of the corrupt SCOTUS.

Exactly!

I pledge for ethics, human rights, education, kindness, among other humanist values.

Genital experiments on children isn’t a human right, it’s what Nazis did to Jewish children.

Routine classroom violence isn’t education, it’s getting beaten up, and trauma for the others.

Open borders isn’t kindness, it’s child rape and fentanyl poisoning across America.

Supporting slave labor in Communist China, isn’t a humanist value, it’s evil.

I teach at a school with a lot of diplomats’ kids. I don’t do the pledge because I think it is wrong to have kids who are actively here on duty with their family from another country to pledge allegiance to our flag.

The pledge apparently represents “Liberty and Justice for straight white people who are currently rich enough to not need any help from the government”

Anyone else…you’re out of luck!

Funny, I like both.
