No, this is why people move out of the city. It gets old. Why invest tax dollars there when there’s so much nuisance and lawlessness ? This is how you drive out your tax base. Also you wouldn’t file an insurance claim on a car window it’s not worth the hike increase fool. |
That can't be true, can it? It would be so easy to track that suspect down through the scooter companies. |
Why would you want to give insurance companies more profit? They don't lose anything, it's a win win for them. |
The bike bros will whine that the nearby residents have to keep the bike lane clear! |
Hard labor gangs for juvenile offenders could work in DC. They can be responsible for cleaning up all the broken glass from the smash and grab crimes, graffiti, litter, etc. Maybe even have them shovel the amazing bike lanes.

Yes you would think they would do some detective work. They could pull records from the scooter company and camera footage from homeowners. We used the DC rebate program ourselves to install cameras - now you are telling me they are not interested in footage when a crime is committed? I'm curious if the guy was wearing a mask in the footage. |
Yes, I too would like to see restorative justice like this..aren't criminals meant to "repair the harm" they caused the victim and community under restorative justice ? If not directly, indirectly in other creative ways? And they would even learn some job /life skills by having something asked of them. |
+1 I totally believe this. A friend in DC followed three men who committed a crime as they fled and told police exactly where they were. They weren’t running, just walking down the street. The police never came. My friend called them three different times. It was completely absurd and showed me how dangerous DC is. |
From a comment "I have several extremely visible, fingerprints and handprints all over my vehicle and MPD won’t even come out" So no finger print taking on victim's vehicles. If there were matches and prints in the system. But why bother since DC doesn't care. 15 years ago all along Wisconsin Ave you could go into Giants, Safeways, CVS etc and load body wash etc into baskets off shelves. Dove wasn't a prescription drug |
Car insurance is already going up. |
I heard of another person who offered video to 2d re: another crime and had the same experience. Perhaps some of the reporters who have covered it can follow up, might be worth readers of this thread emailing to tweeting at some? |
Chances are it's not legally rented, there are ways to get around that, stolen card, etc. |
Even still, that is a useful data point for detectives. |
The police are not the problem. |
I can confirm the police are not interested in video footage of crime. They are also not interested in Craigslist postings offering your stolen property for sale that pop up days after the theft. |
