Why is Jackie Kennedy always referred to as “beautiful”?

So why in books, documentaries, podcasts, and every other media,is she constantly referred to as “beautiful”?

Compared to Eleanor Roosevelt, Bess Truman and Mamie Eisenhower who preceded her as First Lady, she was beautiful. She was the youngest 1st lady. Well educated. Small children and she was pretty.

She was stylish, and more importantly, she knew exactly what people wanted of her and knew how to craft her style to meet those expectations. From being a sweet, young, society bride to a sophisticated hostess as First Lady, to being a sporty and active mother to young kids. Even after JFK was assassinated, she understood how people saw her and how to give them what they wanted, first as the very appropriate widow and later as the wealthy NYC socialite engaged in arts philanthropy and aging gracefully.

She's a good example of the power of style and image, and how having a consistent style that suits your appearance and social position, and then sticking with it for decades, can cement you as attractive and stylish even if you aren't born with great looks.

This is a good take. I think she managed her image well and she was fascinating to a lot of people. For instance, her appearance at Kennedy funeral was iconic. (She had one paparazzo who followed her constantly, Ron Galella.) She never spoke out about anything and cultivated an air of mystery. That was a good thing because I think voice and manner were fake and pretentious. There were some tapes released where she talked with an historian about “Camelot” and she doesn’t seem at all remarkable; she seemed petty. I think she was rather dull in real life and extremely materialistic.

Amen. I never thought she was hot. Same with Marilyn Monroe.

Ah, yes it is. That’s exactly how deep it is.

Nope. See earlier in the thread for info on the fetching 21-year-old First Lady Frances Cleveland.

I mean that may be your take now, but truly every member of my parents’ generation thought of here as a beauty.

Not sexy like Marilyn Monroe.

But a classic beauty. Which probably meant good skin, demure personality, soft feminine voice, hairstyle on trend for the times, impeccably and tastefully dressed.

That’s absolutely not true. My parents and did not think she was pretty at all. I remember them talking about it completely incredulously. People just used to keep their opinions to themselves more.

Stunningly weird looking. She looks like an eagle. Her eyes are way, way too far apart and the rest of her face is too smooched together. And don’t get me started on those teeth. Please stop with these stupid I’ll bet you look worse comments. Nope, I’m prettier. Twenty year old me was prettier than twenty year old Jackie. Not only that, I hung out with a group of moms this afternoon. Each and every one of them was prettier than Jackie. It’s amazing how easily brainwashed people can get. Do you think Elizabeth II was beautiful, too? Because the press told you she was?

Yeah not interested in debating with some internet rando who insists she’s prettier than Jackie O

You are well within your rights to assume I’m hideous. (Go for it! I don’t care!) But that doesn’t make Jackie any less bizarre looking. She was not pretty! What you’re really not interested in is realizing that you’re a sheep who parrots back whatever the media tells her, even when it’s something as obviously wrong like claiming that a woman whose eyes were in different area codes was a great beauty.
