Why is Jackie Kennedy always referred to as “beautiful”?

She was average at best, with eyes far too wide-set, teeth crooked, though she did dress nicely. But if you saw this woman in regular clothing at the grocery store, there’s no way you’d stop in your tracks to notice her beauty.

So why in books, documentaries, podcasts, and every other media,is she constantly referred to as “beautiful”?

She has a certain presence, I think. Not conventionally beautiful.

Her elegance made her beautiful and good bone structure. Her long neck and cheekbones. Dark thick shiny hair. Expressive eyes. Beautiful lips.

She had great style, but her face was ugly. John John, however, was gorgeous.

She had poise and elegance. Those aren’t things make up can give you. "Beauty isn't skin deep".

I disagree on the bone structure. Her face was flat and rounded like she was smushed on the way out.

Yeah I don't get it either. She must have been beautiful IRL. Some people just don't photograph well.

Sure, only they aren’t talking about her inner beauty, they are referring to her looks. She was NOT beautiful. Why lie?

I think it was her position as president’s wife and the Camelot image their PR people were trying to sell, especially in light of him being the first Catholic president. The same thing was repeated with Michelle Obama. It’s so unnecessary and annoying.

I’ve seen her childhood photos and she looked round and cute. My guess is that kind of facial structure looks bonier with age especially if you keep your slimness after middle age (like Jackie).

She had an interesting face, confidence, the right background, poise and extreme thinness. That's a lot right there. Look at Kate and Pippa: not the most attractive, but they also have all of those things (minus the background arguably).

Can you cite some examples of her being referred to as "beautiful"? It seems to me she is more frequently described as glamorous, elegant, stylish, chic, etc.

In her prime, I have no doubt that she was a hell of a lot better looking than any of you

Take a look at the first ladies before and since Jackie and I think it should be clear why people refer to her as beautiful. Who are you comparing her to, supermodels?
There are a few others who were attractive, Michele Obama for sure and maybe Van Buren's wife, but Jackie stands out in this group and probably in any group of women.

Or maybe you are comparing her to Melania?
