Why do people use rice cookers?

Love my zojirushi rice cooker. I’ve had it for 9 years and it still works like a dream, making perfect brown or white rice every time. It also makes excellent wild rice. I still use the stovetop to make rice pilaf, but otherwise, it’s the zojirushi every time.

Do you use your rice cooker to make the oats?

Can an Instapot function as a rice cooker?

It can, but I have an Instant Pot and a small, old, Cuisinart rice cooker (not electronic, one button) and the rice is much better using the rice cooker. I also use it for making Kasha and oatmeal; steaming dumplings; reheating leftovers; and even making small cakes.

Wait…you can do
That in a rice cooker?! There is a Persian rice cooker? Please share

Here is a link https://www.amazon.com/PARS-Automatic-Persian-Rice-Cooker/dp/B00SQPQKCS?th=1

You can buy it for less at the Persian gift shop next to Yekta in Rockville.

Equal amounts of rice and water, a bit of oil and salt. Select how crispy you want your tahdig and walk away.

I swore I would never buy another kitchen appliance, but this looks so awesome. Thank you!!!

OH GOSH same. I do not need another appliance. But here I go.
Just do the bolded? No saffron or yogurt? I cannot WAIT.

You sound argumentative!

She was asking and like me, will learn from the responses.

Agreed - I never understand why people come on to an Internet Discussion Forum and tell people to MYOB or "don't comment on the OP," or get threads locked, etc. The whole purpose is to discuss and debate. It's also why I don't understand why Jeff closes about half the threads he does, but that's another issue.

Anonymous wrote:Another Asian who uses the rice cooker most of the time. I like it because I can turn on the rice cooker and then go and do something else, like make the main course. It makes it much easier to get everything to come out at the same time to serve hot and ready. I'm often juggling or timing 3-4 things to come out at the same time and one less thing to have to pay attention to that will be ready when I need it, is a plus.

Also, when I make fried rice (which my one son loves), the rice from the cooker has just the right moisture when cooked. Cook it, put it in a ziploc bag in the freezer and the next day it is ready to make fried rice. So, I can put the rice on, then we sit down to dinner. After we clean up from dinner, it's ready to freeze and I don't have to stand over the stove watching it.

This. You can start the rice before everything else and it will just be done—and done perfectly. It may be the most used appliance in my kitchen.

My housekeeper uses the Zojirushi to make rice for us, and it is amazing. She also makes couscous and some kind of overnight oatmeal in it.

I use mine for cooking lentils too. I bought a recipe book for different ways to use a rice cooker.

Oats are the best, except when you forget to switch to the oats setting.

Ugh, Mt. effing Vesuvius this morning.

Anonymous wrote:When cooking rice is so easy to make on the stovetop? Why an extra appliance? The rice literally cooks itself to perfection in about 10 minutes. I can make enough for one serving in a small saucepan, or enough for a small army in a large pot, and anything in between. Is it simply because people don’t want to watch for the pot to boil? What am I missing?

No fail, consistent, and easy way to make rice. I can put the rice and water in, turn it on, and walk away blissfully. And it is cooked perfectly every time.

True, but I really have come to love my rice cooker - a staple's staple.

Well, based on this thread I bought a rice cooker and my picky child literally thanked me for doing it after having a huge portion of fluffy rice last night. Thanks DCUM!

This especially with a good quality sticky rice.

Why scrub the pot when it's nonstick pot in the rice cooker.
Anonymous
As others have said because you can set it and forget it. Also because it's very easy to clean.
