How do you google them? Meaning, are these places called "Over 55 communities" or something else? |
Since this is the DMV, lots of you must know people who have moved to Leisure World, I'm guessing? |
Any New England recommendations? Or MidWest? |
Look at Del Webb out in Huntley, Illinois. Distant suburb of Chicago. |
It seems very dated as well. |
Yes. |
But that's where everybody is. |
Lots of over 55s in Md and Va, or even the beach ( Delaware). No need to go to Florida unless that is your culture, your politics, or preference for whatever reason. People who love Florida love it for a reason, and usually it's taxes and politics. |
Or weather. |
It's weather, taxes and lifestyle. Nothing to do with politics. Look at statistics and see how many Californians are moving there. I know of wealthy, very liberal Californians who have bought Central Florida horse farms/ranches and love it. There are also developments/areas which are gay-friendly, despite the current political climate. All these newcomers are changing the political environment. |
And with it, the electorate I pray. (For a young couple though, with school age children, it would be a hard no. Given the way they are distorting the content of public education.) |
Any more suggestions? -- where you know people in a 55+ Community |
The gay friendly ones are probably way more fun. I’d choose it for that reason (hetero woman) |
We're in a 55+ community in Loudoun County, called Birchwood. We pick and choose from the activities we're interested in (bocce league, pickleball, cooking classes, parties/musical events at clubhouse). We're on the younger side (53/60) and still working but it's nice to know that there will be plenty to keep us busy in the future when we retire. It's not a continuing care community, so no options for assisted living, etc, it's completely independent living, with single family homes, townhomes, and condos. |
pp, do you mind sharing the monthly HOA fee? |
