Is the electric Rivian SUV the current “it” car?

They will be out of business and the cars bricked, Tesla is the way tovgo

Nice try. All EV makers are suspect.

Hey moron, do some basic math. You are probably a lawyer, a business degree major, or some other flimsy liberal arts degree major who must at math.

Imagine an 8500+ lbs Rivian accidentally running a stop sign at 25 mph and hitting a small kid crossing the street. Now compare that same incident to someone driving a 3250 lbs Honda Accord. The Rivian has a gargantuan 2.61x more mass than the Honda Accord.

Let me spell it out for you in simple terms: to transfer the same amount of momentum into a child as the Rivian going 25 mph, the Honda Accord would have to be traveling at 65+ mph in the neighborhood!

How many people would be outraged at a car traveling 65 mph through their neighborhood streets where their kids play? Quite ironic that's outrageous yet the Honda Accord going 65 mph in a neighborhood has the same momentum as a fat Rivian going only 25 mph.

These cars are ridiculously sized and an extreme danger. The worst part is they Rivian owners pay $0 in taxes to maintain our roads yet they do the most damage to them per driver becise of their extreme mass. At least with stupidly sized ICE SUVs They require more gas so end up getting taxed more. They contribute proportionally to the amount of damage they inflict on roads. Rivian owners are freeloading deadbeats, and they're dangerous for everyone else around them.

Well this unhinged rant is all over the place. They’re too big! But so are regular SUVs! Just tax them more! Think of the children! Think of the pavement! But still they are freeloaders that will kill everything around them!

Everything results from basic physics.

Apparently you’re too feeble minded to understand high school physics.

8500 lbs Rivian at 25 mph is equivalent momentum to a Honda accord going 65 mph in your neighborhood.

Now imagine the devastating effect of some moronic Rivian driver getting into an accident while driving on the highway at 75 mph. That’s like getting hit by a Honda driver going 195 mph.

Rivians are lethal killing machines that are the worst on the road. And they pay $0 in taxes to contribute to maintenance.

You’re wasting your time. These people here mostly have liberal arts degrees and MBA’s (from Ivies, of course). Their eyes gloss over at all your complicated math and physics mumbojumbo. All they know is EV’s (other than Tesla, now) are the hip cars that all the cool kids are driving. That’s all that matters. Keep all your joules of kinetic energy calculations in your pocket protector, Poindexter. This is about looking cool and claiming your saving the earth!

(and for the love of Gaia, don’t even bring up where all those rare earth minerals in that 5,000 pound battery comes from. Or who digs it out of the ground)

Definitely trendy but the rich still love their full size Range Rovers and BMW X7s.

Any word on their charging network? I was going to invest early on, but their charging network plan seemed like too little too late, so I backed off. And in actuality it’s too little way way way too late. I see many rivians around, but never on the highways outside of town, and I assume it’s because of charging concerns.

They're too big??? Please. I live amongst giant 2 ton trucks in an equestrian paradise. Some people even have horse trucks with the fronts of semi trucks, and regular families drive Excursions. And they are NOT environmentally friendly and spew black smoke out of smoke stacks on top. Get real!

That Rivian SUV weighs nearly a ton more than a Ford Excursion. 8,200 lbs., as much as THREE Honda Fits. God help you when one plows into you.

It’s being built out with a concentration on more out of the way areas, but also high traffic zones (there’s now 2 between DC and NYC for example). Rivians currently use CCS so can charge at any compatible charger, not just Rivian branded, although Rivian branded are more reliable. Soon they can use superchargers too.

DP, they weigh in the same range. 7200-7700 lbs excursion, 7100lbs rs1.

An "equestrian paradise" near DC?

Rich who can afford a $100,000 SUV charge at home (and office) 99% of the time. Only the poor rental class who have to worry about public chargers and poor people can't afford a $100,000 SUV. Either way, I believe Rivians can piggyback on Tesla Superchargers now or in the very near future.

The rivian is heavier by almost 1000 lbs.

Sorry, but most roads are designed to take the weight of heavy trucks...UPS trucks weigh anywhere from 16-24 lbs and roam our suburban streets.

As for the safety of other drivers, if any SUV smashes into a sedan, the advantage will always be with the SUV, no matter the weight.

And the Rivian is right in there with plenty of other trucks that people see around:

Toyota Tacoma: GVWR = 5,600 lbs
Ford Ranger: GVWR = 6,050 lbs
Nissan Frontier: GVWR = 6,012 lbs
Ford F-150 Hybrid: GVWR = 7,350 lbs
Toyota Tundra Hybrid: GVWR = 7,660 lbs
Rivian R1T: GVWR = 8,532 lbs
Nissan Titan XD: GVWR = 8,800 lbs
Chevy Silverado 2500: GVWR = 10,850 lbs

The point is...what is YOUR point about the weight?

Except there are millions of more passenger cars than big rigs, and freight trucks aren't allowed to drive all throughout neighbors and many local roads.

And this might shock you, but the Rivian + Nissan Titan + Silverado are all stupid vehicles. It's possible that multiple bad vehicles can exist simultaneously.

Are you really this dim?
