You are a refreshing reality check, amidst the macho deniers. |
I flew internationally in October and November. Both trips there were maybe 5% of people masking (including my DH). I didn't on those trips because I didn't hear people coughing near me. Plus we weren't in economy so there was more space between passengers. I have masked on domestic flights when someone near me is coughing. |
Right Bozo. But you are then strapped in, for six to nine hours, inches away from that person who got it at the wedding. What do you not get about that? |
Because they have graduate degrees in public health? And do you have any idea how many cabin crew had called in sick? You aren’t that smart. |
And if I don’t? Then what? What happens when you get sick when you masked? How does that work? Explain plz. |
When the masker gets sick after wearing the mask on the plane, they’ll come up with some other nonsense logic to explain it away that they didn’t get Covid on the plane, it was somewhere else. Any convoluted twisted logic that “proves” masking works. Truth is, you will never know where you got it from. We are human and people get sick. Covid doesn’t care if you’re on a plane, train or bus, or at Target. So much wasted energy making your whole personality about avoiding a cold. ![]() |
Perhaps the insecure are those who still mask upset by those who point out few people mask. I agree with the PP that we will always see a few people masking on every flight for the rest of our lives, for whatever reasons. At the same time it's pretty clear most people (the vast, overwhelmingly majority, 95%?) have moved on from masking and don't see the benefits or advantages as worthwhile. That's just what it is. And life goes on. Do what you want. |
I had a few flights when people were masking when I didn’t get sick. (People were also wiping down their seats.). I often get sick traveling. I got sick domestically in Sept and wasn’t good about wearing my mask that trip. Do I know that made a difference? Of course not. But I had a few flights where I masked and didn’t get sick which is rare for me so I plan to mask again. Whatever I caught in Sept took me to Thanksgiving to get over, and even then it was with steroids and antibiotics, so I don’t want to do that again! |
My dh got Covid twice- both time while flying/exposed in airport .
No masks. |
The benefit is not to the wearer maybe, but to the immunocompromised people they will be on contact with. Older people , unvaccinated babies… |
I flew last weekend to and from London. I'd say maybe 5% of people wore masks. I did not get covid. |
The thing is, we all have stories of getting sick from being on a plane from BEFORE Covid. Being packed in like sardines, esp. at this time of year, it's common to pick something up from traveling. But before Covid, very few people were wearing masks. Now I'd wear one. Anyone who is bothered by it can F off. Doesn't impact them in the slightest. |
Well if you didn't, I'm sure no one got sick from traveling ever. ![]() |
I never mask anymore unless I'm at an urgent care facility, or on a flight.
Urgent care facility- I think this goes without saying that I don't want to be packed into a waiting room with a bunch of people who have the flu, without wearing a good kn95 mask anymore. I think one benefit of the pandemic is that now kn95 masks are readily available and it is no longer considered weird to wear one in a doctor's office! Flight- I just don't want to get sick on my way to my vacation. I used to get sick on flights EVERY TIME. Just so easy to pick up a silly cold virus or a stomach bug. And then it's an annoyance on vacation. So I wear a good quality mask and make my kids do the same, for our outgoing flight. For our flight home I don't bother masking or making the kids mask because I don't care nearly as much if we get a cold or some other bug on the return flight. |
I stand by my no answer. I don’t think OP was asking if I’ve ever seen a person in a mask on a plane, but rather what people are doing generally. I’ve been flying 1-2 a month since spring. Very, very few people are masking. I am not masking either, and I haven’t had covid in two years. |
