Masking on Planes

I'm glad I am a teacher. The constant barrage of germs keep my immune system very robust! With that said, I have been on several flights recently and have seen only one or two people masking. No one looks at them askance or anything, so wear one if you want to or not.

There were more people wearing masks than I expected. I brought a couple and only wore one on a segment with an obviously sick person - coughing, etc.

Not international but a cross country flight earlier this fall I'd say only a small handful of people were masking. My family brought KN95s along for the reason a PP stated, if we ended up sitting next to someone hacking up a lung we would have put them on. I'd probably also be inclined to wear one if I was headed to a destination where I wanted to decrease my likelihood of bringing Covid or flu with me such as to visit elderly relatives or a newborn. But no, probably less than 10% of passengers were masked.

Our entire family, with children included, still mask with our KN95. Doesn't seem to bother my kids at all. We've learned to keep the masks in our pockets and put them on when surroundings are busy and take it off when there is open space. We see people still doing it on planes and in airports.

For the most part, we don't wear mask anymore but we don't see how it would hurt to wear it if it's not a big issue for us. I had covid a few months and this particularly strain was pretty terrible.

I wear them in the terminal, while boarding and until the plane reaches cruising altitude. Then I put it back during descent, and until I exit the terminal.

Also I bring gloves and sanitizing wipes and wipe down my seat, tray, screen, armrest etc. have done so since before Covid.

I’m curious whether you do the same thing before sitting down at a restaurant etc?

I mask in the terminal and for short flights but but not many people do

Not international but I just flew to and from Chicago. Virtually no one wore a mask, either in either terminal nor on either flight. I can probably count on two hands the total number of people I saw in masks anywhere during the entire trip. I didn’t wear one either.

I’m traveling abroad for a month right after the holidays and am inclined to mask for the outgoing flights. I hate wearing masks but might force myself to do it anyway because I’m going to a place with shitty healthcare and don’t want to get sick.

Even last year people were not wearing masks on planes, or very few people. I do not.

I don’t care if others wear masks or not but I do give people a side eye who wear masks for 40% of the flight, but then take it off for long periods. Or, the ones who still wear them underneath their nose I still don’t get those people.

We do.

Our trip to Europe was around 7-8k, and I didn’t want to be sick or trying to find a doctor in a foreign country.

I consider wearing a mask a type of insurance.

This is what I do too, unless somewhere nearby sounds sick in which case I leave it on. We're flying this weekend and we'll all wear masks - who wants to be sick on vacation? I know people say they don't work but they seem to work for us.

Just got back from London, where I had a meeting and had to give a presentation. Only a handful of people in masks. I wanted to moister my chance of being sick so I wore mine outbound in the terminal when I was going to be around a crowd for extended periods, like going through security and as we shuffled down the jetway. Once on the plane I took it off once the air started running because I figured that air is filtered, plus no one was sitting next to me. I wore it on the packed Underground into London.

Once my meeting was over I did not mask. Lots of people coughing and sneezing on my plane ride back so fingers crossed.

Almost I know who has flown lately has gotten sick.

I usually have a mask on a plane, but the only time I’ve used it is when the person next to me has on a mask. I wear it so that they feel more comfortable.
