Are there moderate schools that will be accepting of a gay child but aren't hyper-left wing on cultural issues? We just need him to be supported and respected. We aren't looking for much more.

Just deal with the "woke." Send him to Sidwell, GDS, or another progressive-minded school. It'll be woke but your son's self-esteem will be stronger for his entire life.

These are two of the most competitive schools in the city to get into. You don’t just “send” him there unless your last name ends in Biden or Sotomayor.

Not to mention that Sidwell is know to be a self-esteem crusher for everyone.

Eh. Sidwell’s reputation as pressure-cooker is over-stated. The place is like Swarthmore: more famous for being a grind than the truth supports, but then they LOVE having that reputation for it seems more impressive.

That is why I added "..or another progressive-minded school.." If OP is genuinely looking for a school for a gay child. These are it. the woke vs self esteem balancing test should be a no brainer for a parent, with a HEAVY favor for self esteem.

If any of this resonates with OP, I’d look at one of the more traditional boys schools. Sexuality is a private matter. -I’m leaving the thread now!

My gay son finds people like your friends, with their “rights for me but not for thee” view of queer identity to be maddening.

Sexuality is emphatically not a private matter when 29% of trans youth have attempted suicide due to bullying.

Here’s an idea — instead of trying to silence the people pointing out oppression, maybe work on stopping the oppression?

Please stop, seriously.

I won’t stop advocating against the current overwhelming rise in anti-LGBTQ hate and violence. How about you stop advocating for silence in the face of that hate and violence?

Lots of folks have never had their lives or rights impacted by anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and it shows.

You folks who want queer people to just settle down and know their place are part of the problem.

Depends on what you consider not woke? I would say these schools are gay friendly. Sidwell, GDS, Market, NCS, Holton, Sheridan, Burke

I wasn't aware that there is currently an overwhelming rise in anti-LGBTQ hate and violence. without attacking me for asking the question, can you explain what you mean?

I want them to shut up and live their lives, and to stop proselytizing.

Advocating for civil rights or against oppressive legislation is "proselytizing"?

What civil rights do they not have?

Don’t know if it was already mentioned on this long thread… but St. Anselms, all boys Catholic 6-12th. Very welcoming and allllll kinds of kids there.

My kid is at one of the ultra liberal schools and we must have missed the lesson with 100 different gender identities. All I see on this thread are generalizations about woke progressive schools with no actual specifics - zero examples! Does anyone have an example of something kids at one of these schools have been taught that is so extreme? Like actual curriculum or specific indoctrinations? I'd be really interested.

So much of this stuff is just imagined perceptions of what must be going on in these scary woke places.

Don’t feed the troll by responding to the quoted question. Moms of Liberty found this site months ago and this smells like them.

Parents opposing drag queen story hour for kids isn’t exactly a hate crime.

I hope you end up in the
“wokest” school there is.
