Halloween night. What time are your lights off?

Anonymous

it should be when it gets dark

Why?

Start at 5, be done by 7. Done.

Nobody trick or treats at 5 pm. How bizarre.

Why are you on this board if you don't have young kids

That works if you have don't get many people stopping by. Doesn't work as well in high foot traffic areas, even when you have a sign saying take only a couple of pieces (for small piece candy) or one for a full bar, some will try to empty out the entire bin (yes a bin, a small bowl isn't enough). 5-7pm is best.

Why? Do you have little kids?

Why does it matter? It's someone's preference.

Did I say it matters? It’s a question, not an accusation.

I keep candy back and refill throughout the night, so it works for me. When it's gone, it's gone and lights go out. Some jerk kid did clean out the bowl once last year, but again, I don't put our all the candy so it wasn't a big deal..

The only reason I don't have them ring the doorbell is that we have some chronic health conditions and I still don't feel like being exposed to all the kid germs.

Yep keep refilling until that one kid or group cleans it out. then lights out. 6 Costco bags gone.

Doesn't matter when I turn off the lights... teenagers keep ringing the bell until 10 p.m.

8pm. After then, I leave the bowl out. Whomever gets there after, has free rein.

We haven't had a trick or treater in years but we have our pumpkin out, candy available and lights on until 10 pm just in case.

Our town is very civilized. Trick or treating is 6PM to 8PM on the dot.
