Being wary of Tik Tok influencers peddling products to 12 year olds. Drunk Elephant is an adult product for the most part. Some have oils made for older skin that has gotten drier. Some have retinol for wrinkles or collagens meant for older skin. Drunk Elephant has addressed the issue by clarifying which products are ok for 12 year olds and which are not appropriate and can cause rashes, redness, scaling and breakouts. I just don’t get why there are 10-12 year olds posing with their Drunk Elephant products and posting them on social media like it’s some kind of achievement. |
My tween is very into these brands also. I do make sure they are clean, without any anti-aging acids, and she only gets things for birthdays/holidays or for extra schoolwork incentives. I will say that she lists Cerave right along with the fancy brands she wants so they must be doing something right with their marketing. She was dying for Cerave face wash and I was thrilled to indulge her! |
Besides face wash, what exactly is she using? My 14 DD uses nothing except cerave wash in the shower. |
How is a child that young on tik Tok? |
Am I the only one who has a 12 year old who doesn’t wash her face? She’s never had a pimple or any skin problems, her skin is flawless.
If she develops acne at some point I’ll get her the appropriate skin care products. Products with excellent reputations for treating teen skin. It won’t be Drunk Elephant because that’s an average quality product, not good enough. My daughter loves Sol de Janeiro scents, that’s about it for Sephora. |
She has Bubble moisturizer and a sample blush that she got from Sephora. And some lip glosses..her 'fancy' ones are Tower 28 which isn't too pricey and is pretty clean. In regards to face washing my DD never washed her face either (no pimples yet) but I told her that she has to wash her face before bed every time she puts on makeup. |
I can see washing off makeup or dirt at night. I don’t understand the moisturizer for ten year olds. Do they have dry skin? |
NP. I don’t get it either. My 12 and 14 yr old don’t use anything besides what’s in the shower. |
+1 My 16 year old never got into this stuff, thank goodness. The girls who do all seem to have flawless skin to begin with. They’re just getting them hooked on the empty promises of the beauty industry as soon as possible. |
Hi and nope, skin is not dry. She just wants ALL of the things so I allowed a few items. Its a racket for sure. |
My daughter has sensitive skin, she's been seeing a dermatologist since she was 12. We asked about this product and her doctor said absolutely NOT for young skin. YMMV but we are listening to our doctor. |
I will add that the things we let her use do not have any anti-aging properties, or acids at all. Only very basic, clean items but many lines do have something that will fit both what I want and have a brand name that DD wants. Again, this is birthday/christmas gift material but she loves it. There are worse things. |
FWIW, my 13yo is not into fancy skincare or makeup at all. But she spends a lot of time outside doing sports, so washing off sunscreen and moisturizer after makes sense to me? That’s been her routine for a couple years. |
