Au contraire in wealthy WASP circles. It means their ring is so large and valuable it's sitting in a vault somewhere and rarely displayed. Would be gauche to wear it on a daily basis.

Wrong. It's not sitting in a vault. It's in a dish next to the sink or in a jewelry box on the dresser.
