Toured recently with DC. Then did a GW tour after - we were both more impressed with GW than Georgetown. It's funny to me that someone said ND was about a "storied sports program" bcs that was what Georgetown was in my day. I think not having that any more is a loss - even for me, who cares nothing about sports.

We also went to Penn on that trip and realized very quickly the schools with a 15% acceptance rate are not in the same universe as the schools with the 5% acceptance rate.

Again, your son has not been accepted at Georgetown, so your opinion is meaningless.

I guess you don't tour at all with your children? Just apply based on gut and then they can tour and make their preferences known about schools they were attended to?

Honestly, we didn’t tour every school that our kids applied to. We also haven’t bashed any school that they haven’t been accepted to either.

Again, you take it too personally. There is always a downside to a school. For Georgetown it is the decaying and overbuilt campus and lack of endowment. For BC it is lack of housiing for freshmen right on campus. For ND it is middle of midwest location. No school is perfect, and Georgetown is no exception.

The famous factious Georgetown basher is here to distract from the Northeastern basher!

Luckily, that 11% acceptance rate is closer to 6% in reality (since not in common app and scores required), so your kid won’t get in. We have maybe 1 kid a year get in from our huge Arlington public.

Newsflash: Boston college is more expensive.

Often, the applicant tours after they are accepted to a school, then decides if whatever not so random thing upsets them. Neither of which OP did, so OP kind of walked right into several opposing responses - all of which are more truthful than OP.

this is the kind of thing I dislike about georgetown and it's alumni. they have a totally inflated sense of self. most of the world puts it in the same bucket as BC - good school! but Georgetown folk really take offense to that. best Catholic university in America? the world would say, Notre Dame. Georgetown folk incredulous. do people really want to go to a university affiliated with the Catholic Church? no, the vast vast majority do not. Are there any kids who apply to GW but not Georgetown? Yes, many thousands.

Do you think pointing out that kids apply to GW and not Georgetown really proves your point? Because it doesn’t.

Hint: The NEU and the GU basher sound very much alike, if you read their multiple disingenuous threads. Ahem.

Which is too bad, because parents really do need as much accurate information as possible during the tricky application process. OP distracts from the helpful posters, and dilutes the DCUM college boards.

Why would OP need to wait until accepted to tour, especially if nearby? Plus, I would definitely want to see a school before applying if it were a whole new application. No way would I fill out a whole new application and write essays unless I had an idea if I would even want to attend.

Combine the cramped campus with the expensive & ove-21 nightlife & dull sports scene, & what you get is a place much better suited for grad study than undergrad FOR MOST PEOPL. It’s still probably great for kids who are already working on their inauguration speech, but for the rest, not so much.

Sorry for the typos…itsnot easy landing a 757 and typing at the same time. By the way, if you parked a black Audi in back of Healy Hall, I just noticed that you have a flat tire. Driver’s side, rear.

Their kid was rejected from both. Guarantee. I sometimes bash UVA for putting me on the waitlist. Lol

Seems to most of PP that you are the one taking this thread overboard and taking your denial to GU very personally, OP.

Love this take. Thanks PP.

Completely different school.

And isn't that a good thing?

Depends on what the kid wants. Georgetown is unparalleled for its connections into DC. If that’s what a kid is looking to do, career-wise, Georgetown is the best.

Notre Dame is more your typical strong school with storied sports legacy.

NP. I thought ND was better than Georgetown academically, SFS aside.

I know nothing about UVA, and a little about the other schools, but I absolutely agree with the bolded. So obvious.

ND is #20 in USNWR and Georgetown is #22. So no — ND is not necessarily better.
