Are schools in the northeast just less happy fun and positive?

Sentiments like this is why my kids would NEVER consider midwest or south. Ignorance.

+1

Plus the blatant misogyny.

You’ve triggered the NE lib elites.

I think people in the NE are kinder, but less polite than people from the south.

Yes, just ask anyone from Boston and New York . . .

I don’t trust anyone who is fake nice.

This is starting to sound like a Hillary for President rally. These enlightened, inclusive intellectuals are frothing at the mouth, desperate to demonstrate to the Deplorables how happy, fun, and positive they are.

huh? The only over-the-top statements I see are from people like you--and the whole tone of the thread that is making claims that one group of people is somehow "nicer" than others. There are all kinds all over. I get this is what you want the thread to be, but it feels pretty flat to me.

I went to a liberal arts college (NESCAC) in the northeast. It was definitely more intense and less fun than schools in other parts of the country. I was raised in a midwestern college town and the experiences of my friends who stayed there were completely different than mine.

Also, as another point of reference, I went to a top 10 law school and that school was much more positive and happy. I loved law school.

Homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, racist, misogynistic, paternalistic…”I would NEVER consider midwest or south. Ignorance.”

Excuse me madam. I am hesitant to risk being fake-nice, but it does appear that your superior intellect might have missed these words in your impartial search for “over-the-top statements.”

You really are trying hard.

Likely depends on the student - built into OP's post is the assumption that those who want challenging classes are necessarily negative and not fun - my college had very interesting challenging classes and a fun social life in the NE - which I preferred over a mindless party scene. College is not summer camp - it should be intellectually challenging in addition to the social side

She is much happier at a midwestern school. Different vibe.

Different = non competitive

I guess the deplorable has spoken. The anti-intellectual crowd is always so bitter none of the top schools wanted them so they claim that going to a good school doesn't matter. I guess you need to believe this stuff to cope. Oh and Trump lost by the way and I'd be happy to outline why Hillary would have made an excellent President but you don't seem to have the educational foundation to understand that.

I know 3 kids from my circle who chose University of Alabama. Two white, one not. All 3 left. One dropped out and is working for a family business, one is living at home taking community college classes and in therapy for depression and one transferred to a school in NY.

Would these kids have had similar outcomes if they had gone somewhere else? Probably. But none of them found ‘Bama to be a happy, fun, or positive experience.

I have always found this tweet to be accurate:

I don't know much about the south, but I definitely prefer the way people in the northeast help out while minding their own business.

Jordan Green: When I describe East Coast vs West Coast culture to my friends I often say "The East Coast is kind but not nice, the West Coast is nice but not kind," and East Coasters immediately get it. West Coasters get mad.

New Yorkers will not say a single nice word for 15 minutes, whole time they're shoveling your car out of the snow for you

Stand at a flight of stairs in the NYC subway with a stroller. Someone will grab the other end, help you carry the stroller, and then walk away without saying a word.
