The Union writ large may donate to the Democrats but I would estimate most members have nothing in common with the middle class. That the Union is threatening to strike at a time when our democracy is literally on the line tells me all I need to know.

as posted in first post ...

how long will it be until Democrats and urban elites condemn the auto workers for the audacity of asking for a raise?

didn't take long for urban elites to condemn US workers. no sane US worker should ever vote democrat

Lol lol lol. These people are literally biting the hand that feeds. And yet they want more as if they’re something special. You’re trying to make the out to be blue collar heroes. Go listen to John Lennon, lol.

Please write content in a cogent manner.

Lol.

The Daily with Michael Barbara did a GREAT episode about this strike today.

How do we support the UAW? After hearing the episode, I fully support this strike.

Politico said Americans support the strike by a margin of 2:1.

This thread is a great window into how the Democrats sold their souls to the very privileged, quasi fascist, Mitt Romney esque elites who icons like FDR welcomed the ire of. That “Democrats” are openly castigating working class people from asking to be fairly compensated for their labor is disgusting, frankly. Thank God we have Joe Biden as president and not some wonky weasel like Mayor Pete or Beto. At least Biden actually is a voice for the working class and doesn’t actively disdain them like a lot of “Democrats” in this thread.

The MAGAs want manufacturing in America, right? It's time that they learn that this is what you get when you want manufacturing in America. Factory workers want to get paid $50 per hour and will fight and strike for it.

Joe Biden wants manufacturing in America too, genius. Look at the CHIPS act and his Buy America stipulations for government contracts. He’s actually putting America First with policy, not empty rhetoric like Trump. I know that might upset neoliberals like you who despise working class people, but it’s the truth.

UAW is on strike against the Big 3 for the first time in history!

They already make almost $30/h to do work that requires little skill and little education. They want 46% salary increases, to bring back the pension, and healthcare for retirees. They will saddle companies with ginormus amounts of debt and will make it impossible to make a profit. They're trying to raise wages to almost $100k per year for that kind of work. Good grief, what's next, six figure salaries for the secretary at work?

Fire them all and hire all of the migrants coming over from the border. Better yet, move to EVs even faster. Electric vehicles require 40% less labor because there are no engines to assemble. Automakers should close all internal combustion plants, speed up the transitions to EVs, increase automation, and hire migrants to cover the rest. Donezo.

Most Americans support the strike. Nothing the UAW is demanding is excessive. Management will lose.

Most Americans are also stupid.

Bring in the EVs (which is what the Dems want anyway). Layoff 40%. Automate and hire out to migrants.

+1 Without Tesla these companies never would have gone to EV. Organizational behavior 101.

The problem is that the Big 3 are still using the same model of buying parts out of house. Therefore they are losing money on every EV they make. They don't know how to produce them in volume. That might change, but Tesla's production costs are far lower because everything is done in house.

Greedy? They are woefully underpaid when you look at what companies are brining in. Asking for COLA is not greedy.

Biden just threw $100 million at upgrading charging stations. This is where we are going.

Yup. Outrageous Union extortion is going to make the development of EVs even faster. Law of unintended consequences for them. They're compensating themselves right out of jobs because what they do will be made extinct once there are no more internal combustion engines cars to be made.

This is also a boon for Tesla and Toyota who don't use unionized workers. They're going to have way better profit margins.
