Buying a Vacation Home at Lake Anna

With the exception of the dated paint colors from the early 2000 (and some other minor dated details, like the crown molding) I think the home is actually gorgeous -- I do love an A-frame house.

I used to have the Little People A-frame ski cabin when I was a kid and this reminds me of that, lol.

Why do builders always make the structure and design of the back of the house look so much more beautiful, interesting, better, etc, and the front is usually so traditional and boring?

I've noticed that a lot of sneaky realtors use a photo of the rear of the house as their first photo in their MLS ad, add if they're imply that it's the front.

It's not ENTIRELY to my taste, but does seem like a nice enough house. But what's the point in having that fabulous dock structure and a beach and all that waterfront property when the view is going to be married by white trash shitting on each other on the sandbar 200 yards away and you can't go in the water because of out-of-control algaeal blooms? I'd pay to NOT be near any of that!

Look, I think Lake Anna is a disgusting white-trash poop party, but it is, according to my math and Google maps, significantly closer than the Great Lakes.

Perhaps many of you can visit the Prince George's strip mall car meet ups that would be more to your cultural tastes?
They are closer than Lake Anna and I hear they usually end with a bang.

I actually know where that house is located and it is about 14 miles south of the notorious “sandbar” and cows in the lake. The water quality is fine in that part of the lake.

I’m the PP who posted the description of the sand bar scene.

FWIW, this is the “nice” end of the lake. I visited a college friends parents house there frequently years ago.

You definitely get some reckless boaters but not as many. I think the water quality is suffering in the whole lake these days due to warmer temps, but it’s not the same scene as elsewhere. The closer you get to the marinas and the central part of the lake, the worse it gets. Not sure I’d spend 2M to be there, but to each their own.

For another point of view of the sandbar.

If I paid $2m and that's the bullshit I had to see I would be enraged. That is NOT cool. Especially if they're pooping on each other or whatever.

I'm the other poster who ALSO posted about the sandbar scene. I've scene it myself except I saw more than one sandbar. Neither was HUGE but both were wildly inappropriate and neither could happen without having a ton of inebriated power boaters smashing their way back home or to the marina. All jokes about poop aside, it was disconcerting. It's a genuine shame because it is a very large and, in parts, very beautiful lake, but when you get people like that it makes it nervewracking to take a small craft out or to post up anywhere stationary to do anything like fish or lounge. I've had too many close calls with speeding boats driven by obviously drunk partiers—if they want to party, and poop on each other, next to the power plant, god bless 'em, but not for me.

What a ridiculous comparison.

Just be aware before you go swimming that you might come out of the lake with a tail. 🥴

This is, by far, my favorite thread on DCUM.

A tail seems like the least bad outcome.

Oh, I know...but if nuclear runoff, nitrogen & phosphorus pollutants, bizarrely tepid water, gastrointestinal illnesses, bovine bathing & algae blooms don't terrify you efficiently enough, I thought maybe I'd implore their superficial side. 😁

Not a single person of color for as far as the eye can see. 🫤

Not a chance I’d buy a house on Lake Anna (or any other lake in this area). Now up to 25 probable cases from Memorial Day weekend. Plus now that I read about all the precautions you’re supposed to take before/after swimming in lakes I’m too grossed out.

Cuts a little close to home and points out your thinly veiled racism (red faced, redneck, etc.) of most of these posts huh?
That is just the ironic flip side.
