Buying a Vacation Home at Lake Anna

Anonymous
Not Lake Anna specifically related, but I'm surprised with 3 older kids that you aren't just saddled down with activities. We bought during COVID when there was nothing to do and quickly realized 6 months out of the year activities made it hard to leave the area.

A friend of the family built a house there. They literally had to build on a slave graveyard. It's definitely haunted.

That whole area has such a bad vibe.

Yikes -- this is awful.

Last time we were there, there were huge sandbar parties with middle-aged women in thongs twerking. It was bizarre and gross.

“ 7News went down to Lake Anna on Monday, where neighbors told us that large groups of people dock their boats at a sand bar.

Those neighbors told us they weren't surprised to learn the lake might be contaminated, because they believe boaters relieve themselves in the lake.”

+1

Gross.

Exactly. It's awful to be near water on a hot day and not be able to go in.

We love tubing, kayaking, paddle boarding, jet skiing. swimming, boating, fishing, etc. So we started thinking of maybe getting a place. Someone brought up Lake Anna to us. The location is ideal for us living in NOVA with family in Petersburg. I don't know much about Lake Anna. Before I get deep in my research, I was hoping DCUM can help me out with the pros and cons of having a vacation home at Lake Anna. I am told that it has a public and private side. Not sure about what that's all about. Is one better? Why? We would hope to rent it when we are not using it. Is there much of a rental market there? Safety? Is the lake patrolled well? How is the water quality in general? Does the lake ever get super low? They are just some general questions but please share all your pros and cons. Thanks.

Yeah with E Coli sure great idea. Don't you read the news?

It’s pretty telling that really awful lakes like this are what passes as a desirable place to own a vacation home for DC area people. Speaks to how lacking in natural beauty this area is.

Not to mention cows go swimming in the lake.

This area isn’t lacking in natural beauty. You’re just dumb and lake Anna sucks.
