So many bitter people here because their school wasn’t included. Typical DCUM!

Much better if they pick it for partying.

One thing that surprised me was the lack of landscaping maintenance at UVa. We toured it last and I thought that there were more weeds growing in the sidewalks, flower beds and on the lawn compared to other Va schools. It looked a lot like my yard at home, not bad but not great CNU and VT stood out as having more maintained landscaping, far fewer weeds growing in the grass and more flowers planted. I had always assumed UVa would have superior landscaping. Am I alone in noticing this about UVa?

All that being said, I'd be thrilled if my daughter went to UVa. It is definitely a reach but if accepted I'd really prefer she go there.

But heck, if it doesn’t happen, you can complain about the landscaping.

PP, you need to understand that there is a difference between public and private schools. My own private, a SLAC, is now more beautiful than it ever was because that's what it thinks will attract private school dollars . But it's now $90K a yea and not worth it! As a taxpayer in VA,, I don't want to see UVA pumping money into landscaping - I'd rather see it go to scholarships for those that need it. Yes, this 100%! Either more scholarships or pay professors- adjunct and tenure - more to attract higher qualified candidates. As the Spanish saying goes: Aunque la mona se vista de seda (mona se queda) = You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Aesthetics are definitely a factor in picking a school. Not the number one criterion, but right up there for me, my kids, and probably many others. No one really wants to attend an ugly school... except you, maybe?

Uh.. maybe for your kid, but we are not talking about your kid.

They are insanely popular overall.

I know! That’s as crazy as allowing physical appearance to influence your choice of spouse.

Not among my students at my kids' school - most are seeking out suburban and rural campuses. You must be talking about your own kid and their peers.

NOPE. I'm not talking about your kid or my kid or isolated cases.
This is for overall.

Schools like NYU, USC, Northeastern are the most applied schools from DMV area as well as nationally.
Check the real data for yourself rather looking at your kid and some kids around you.

NOPE. You made the claim, you provide the "real data" to support it. And not some list from Bethesda.

Bethesda is a good representation and survey of DMV area. NYU received 120K applications. Northeastern 100K
