That’s not the point. It’s the principle and it is wrong.

Melatonin also conflicts with medications like steroids. You are a bad parent and person.

That was dangerous, unlawful, and could have been deadly.

Melatonin. This isn’t heroin. You’re insane

I have a DD20 who has multiple food, environmental and med allergies. She goes nowhere without her med alert necklace and epinephrine. The scenario you’ve described OP could have been deadly for my DD and honestly, for yours and anyone else’s.

Not only would I contact the parents of ALL involved, but I think I’d contact an attorney to advise next steps. File a police report?

This behavior is so concerning and as others have said, what’s next with this group of boys? Do you even have the full story about what happened to DS? Criminal behavior here and a mob mentality at play.

Forget the soccer team. These boys are horrible and need to be held accountable. Find a new school.

Look, I'm all about letting kids work out their own stuff.

But, what the f&8 are you preserving here? For your son to keep being the target of a group of aholes?

I'm sure some of them are nice kids who made a mistake. They need to own up to it. They can decide what to do (correct answer: atone). If they don't do that, then there wasn't anything there worth saving. And they can't atone if they're not held accountable.

Your son needs to know that it's not okay and they need to be confronted. He can also know that if he can't or won't do it, you will because he's too young to make that decision.

Did you actually read the post?? They didn’t give him one melatonin. Of course that’s fine. They gave him a PLATE without him knowing. He took so much he was ill through the next day. They may not have realized what they were doing was dangerous, but it was.

And either way they need to know that playing a prank on the kid that is the odd man out is absolutely cruel.

I’m a new poster and while I completely understand what an awful position you are in I think this is dangerous and the parents need to know. I would definitely want to know if it was my son.

Well, no, even one melatonin isn’t fine, honestly. It’s BETTER than a plateful, but they would have no idea if he takes something that could interact with it. That was super dumb of them, and they need an adult to come down hard so that they understand.

It doesn't really matter what it is. They intended to drug him. They didn't intend to seriously hurt or kill him, sure! Of course not. But it could have happened by accident. And the risk involved in giving someone any medication without their knowledge is way, way too high. Way too high. Even if it's tylenol.

I wouldn't call the police though, but it is definitely a serious matter.

Oh hell no!! I don't usually involve myself in kid stuff, but this would have me PISSED! I would contact the parent of the host immediately. And if I personally knew any of the other moms (or dads), I would tell them what happened. My kid would just have to be mad at me.

Bare minimum is that he need to get off that soccer team and find another one. He’s not safe around those kids and should never be around them.

If you can do that then I might consider not contacting the other parents.

Ugh…

He has practice tomorrow and has told me he’s going to pretend it didn’t happen. I haven’t gotten a chance to really talk to DH about it but I do think we are done with this soccer team.

He’s played since he was 6 but this is a newer team he started in last year.

What? Do not send him to practice until you have figured out your response (eg, is he staying on the team? If not, why woukd he ever go back?) and talked to the host parents if not others. Sending him to practice is conceding this was NBD.

+1. It's never fine to trick someone into ingesting something unknowingly. You never know what kind of reaction the person could have.

I can totally see these jerks thinking this was funny and moving on to candy laxatives, THC gummies and the like.

Depending on parents reaction, share with current soccer team coach why you are leaving.

This. Get your kid away from these kids. I hope they don’t go to school together.

If these kids are not corrected, i have no doubt one of them would do this in college to a girl and then rape her. twisted.

You have terrible judgment. I sincerely hope that you do not have children.
Anonymous
Why just the team and not the school?
Start with the parents.

It is as old as time when kids gang up on another while they sleep, but these kids took it to a dangerous level. Where did they get the gummys, the host parents must be told.

You are a total moron.

The parents need to know and the kids need to get consequences. They are probably just dumb teenagers, but what they did was really bad. I am so sorry OP.
