How long do you keep your cars?

Because zero car payments are fantastic.

Cars are a massive waste of money. Even if you pay cash it is stupid. Throwing a huge amount of liquidity into a furnace on a depreciating asset is a terrible way to generate wealth.

We drive a 2016 Mazda 3. Bought it while were poor. We make far more money now, yet keep driving it because it is paid off and it works. I just paid to fix the suspension and did a lot more maintenance. Hope it lasts another 5+ years so we don't have car payments.

The additional $1000 a month in car payments is immaterial to us. We have plenty saved. I’m not driving some crappy car. Do some of you not even have Bluetooth? Back up cameras? These seem like necessities these days.

I've been driving for 36 years and literally just got a car with bluetooth and a back up camera. Um, they're not life changing LOL. The camera is nice but I've never hit anything backing up in the previous 36 years.

Until I run it into the ground.

We typically keep our horseless carriages for 90-100 years. DH still drives the 1924 Oakland 6-54A he bought when we first met.

I don’t understand the need to cycle through vehicles and upgrade to the latest fashions every 2 or 3 decades. What does a Tesla buy you that you can’t get from a 1915 Cadillac V-8, Type 51 (my car, BTW)??

Agreed...a backup camera makes life easier but it is not going to save your life. Bluetooth? for music?

My 2011 mid trim Honda Odyssey had Bluetooth and a backup camera. It also had leather and heated seats! Power seats and mirrors too! Typical more money than brains poster.

We have a 2005 Honda sedan and a 2007 Honda SUV. The mileage is modest for their age because we don’t have big commutes and we maintain the cars very well. But we’re hanging on go them because we can’t afford 2 new cars at the moment, not because we’re making some sort of statement.

Our 2010 Subaru has all of those too. Plus an ancient CD based navigation system, but that's what Google maps on your phone is for.

I have no clue how they filmed the Dukes of Hazard series or most of the Fast and Furious movies. They had no back up cameras and Blue Tooth.

But it now fully explains why Bo and Luke on the Dukes of Hazard never drove backwards while talking on the phone.

To be sure, this sort of clever wit is lost on a dunce such as yourself.

I love my back up camera and heated seats, but rarely use the Bluetooth. I wouldn't buy a new car except my last one was death trap and it had to go.

About 10 years. Two cars developed expensive and unpredictable problems at that age, and I wasn't willing to put up with getting stranded. More recently, the cars were fine but I wanted to switch to a hybrid and electric.
