You've got to love DCUM where:
(1) your kid scored 1600 and is attending Harvard on a soccer scholarship. (2) you make $1m but save $900k per years because you grew up poor. (3) you only buys clothes that are on sale at Target or from the Goodwill. (4) you drive a 20 y/o rusted Kia because cars are a waste of money. |

The additional $1000 a month in car payments is immaterial to us. We have plenty saved. I’m not driving some crappy car. Do some of you not even have Bluetooth? Back up cameras? These seem like necessities these days. My 2009 did not come with these things but has them as my handy DH installed them after market. I feel fancy

Bluetooth is in every cheap car imaginable. Cameras are in every car now because they're required by law. None of those options makes a car luxurious. A $17k kia will have those. |
| I have a 2013 and a 2024. |

"Bluetooth is in every cheap car imaginable. Cameras are in every car now because they're required by law. None of those options makes a car luxurious. A $17k kia will have those." ...when you have driven some of the older cars I have driven, they most definitely do feel luxurious 😅 That being said, I will be updating my ride at some point but I'm holding off as long as I can given the prices I'm seeing out there. |
| I’m driving a 24 year old RAV4 that I’ve owned for the last 17 years. She only has 210k miles on the engine and no rust on the underside so I’m hoping for another few years out of her. |
you are like me. i have a 2025 and a brand new 2026 BMW |
I'm calling BS. What 25s or 26s are out yet? |
| We have an 07, 13, 20 and 24. |
Sarcasm. |

I am 49 and have bought three cars in my life, one of which is our current. The other two I drove until they were dead. 150k and 200k miles respectively, at 10 and 16 years old. I have spent probably 5x less on cars than some in this thread at my age or younger.
Even factoring in repairs, no one on Earth could convince me that replacing more often would have been a better value in the net. |
| ^^ it has also been dramatically better for the environment than a regular replacement regime would have been. Not as good as relocating to public transit would have been, but as minimal an impact as I could accomplish given some parameters I didn’t fully control. |
Goodness pp… |
| I drive a 2015, bought it used in 2016 - I will drive it as long as possible. I do live in a cold and snowy climate which shortens the life spans of cars. It had Bluetooth and heated seats, i have an after market back up camera but it's a pain in the ass to use. It's a hydundai accent so very low so I have good visibility out the back. |
Damn this place -- it is getting impossible to separate bragging from sarcasm. |
