My son has a high IQ and a learning disability, the worst combination. You’d know if your child had a LD at this stage. So many people claim their disruptive kids are bored because the work is too easy. But a truly gifted child will do what yours does, find ways to use his time wisely. |
| Make sure you emphasize character and being an ethical person as you raise your gifted child. Being gifted does not make one a decent person. Don't fall in love with being smart. It's not all that matters. |
| Is your child being challenged in school or do you have to supplement? I don't think the score is as important as the qualitative experience. Contrary to what others here think, I don't think you should completely disregard it, but just make sure your child is being challenged at school. If not, it's time to look elsewhere, or supplement. |
Ignorant comment. You can't do your own thing when you're forced to do a different thing, and the teacher shuts down your attempt at discussion because it's over the class's head. |
What a nasty response. |
Do you have a disruptive child and excuse it because “he’s too smart and bored”? The OP said nothing about starting a discussion when he has free time. She said when the students do their work, he finishes twice as fast as his classmates and he keeps himself busy. He does the same work as the other children and is able to work independently until it’s time for a new classroom activity. What is wrong with that? |
