Disney shutting down Star Wars hotel

No. If it was making money, they’d be subject to a shareholder suit if they shut it down for political reasons.

Disney is still investing in Florida:

Despite its battle with Gov. Ron DeSantis, Disney remains committed to the state of Florida.

The media and theme park juggernaut is set to invest $17 billion in central Florida’s Walt Disney World hub over the next decade, which includes the potential creation of 13,000 jobs.

Disney effed this one up on their own before DeSantis got involved.

I wouldn’t be so sure. They just pulled a $1 billion office park development because DeSantis. I would fully expect them to continue divesting from Florida.

They might be blaming DeSantis for canceling the project, but the decision to move Imagineering from Anaheim to Florida was a deeply unpopular one with the workers in that division. Nobody wanted to go. Diseny isn't divesting from Florida though. Didn't they just announce they're going to put in a fifth park?

Yes. Major investments are coming in FL. And Iger always hated the move of Imagineering to FL. Killing it was a done deal once Iger came back. They just chose to blame it on DeSantis.

You will have a blast! Have fun with the anticipation and planning (costumes/backstory, if you’re doing that) and enjoy every minute of the journey!

We're going July 20. I was on hold yesterday for 5 hours and then got in. I'm so excited mainly b/c this was on DH's bucket list. If you have any tips or costume inspiration, please share!

Congratulations! I found this Facebook group to be really valuable with tips, general (spoiler-free) info, and links to other groups with costuming ideas: https://www.facebook.com/groups/starcruiserinfo

You don't need an elaborate backstory, but having a "home planet" and occupation or brief reason for being on the trip can help with interactions. We went pretty simple costume-wise - more in the cargo pants/vest style, with a bit of jedi robe inspiration for my husband.

Make sure you have the Disney Parks app installed (as well as the My Disney Experience) one, and get familiar with it before you go, since you'll be getting messages and missions through that app. And know that there is so much going on and so many parallel story arcs -- you will not be able to do everything, but you will have so much fun with the adventures you get sucked into. Enjoy!

It wasn’t $5000 a night. The base price was around $5000 for a room for the two-night experience (same price for 1 or 2 people), which included 6 meals, the immersive experience/storyline/events, and time at Hollywood Studios with lightning lane access to the 2 Star Wars rides. Add $700/person to add a 3rd and 4th person to the room. Yes, it was expensive (prohibitively so for many), but not $5000/night, and was a premium experience..

Ok this is actually not terrible … and now I’m super bummed I never got the chance! My husband and I would have loved it because we could go do only this and not all the other Disney stuff or feel like we needed to bring the kids

It's smart for them to blame it on DeSantis. They were able to pull the plug on an unpopular and nonsensical move, while blaming DeSantis so that people get upset with DeSantis rather than Disney. Theme park enthusiasts saw through this, but most people don't, and believe DeSantis is behind it.
