I’m just wondering who pays this much for these tickets. I’m guessing a lot of moms are taking their children? We can afford it but it seems excessive.

Well those are last minute tickets, they’re $$$$$

They were posted at these prices 24 hours after ticket sales. They were never lower.

Yeah, Taylor swift crashed Ticketmaster. Is she really this popular???

Clearly, umm, yes. She is.

+1. She is a 34 year old self-made billionaire.

Since when are rich, trust fund kids self-made? Yes, she is successful but she is no more self made than the Kardashians.

What? No. She is not a rich trust fund kid. Why are you even on this thread? And sorry, the Kardashians ARE self-made. I happen to think their profession is as stupid as they come. But I can't help it if idiots watch their dumb show and buy their product placements.

Dude, her father is a millionaire wealth investment manager. He is the principal founding member of the Swift Group and has done incredibly well for himself. Taylor, with the aid of her millionaire father, was able to tour and secure contracts as a young child, who supported and bolstered her career. She was not and has never been a struggling artist. On the contrary, she is a rich kid, with rich parents, who is able to take risks and be an artists precisely becuase she has so much money to fall back on.

Swift, Kardashians, and Donald J have all done well for themselves - but the loans from parents equaling over $1M is easily what sets them apart from other budding entrepreneurs.

But sure, self-made.

It's wild that people still buy DJT's line that all he got from his dad was a "starter loan". His dad funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to him to get him through the various bankruptcies, through illegal schemes to avoid gift and estate taxes.

It is that concert ticket prices are obscene, they didn't used to be this way, and as an average person with an average income it is inconceivable that anyway would have thousands and thousands of dollars to spend a couple of hours one night, when many are worried about making rent or feeding their kids. It is a level of inequality we have never seen, and it is unsustainable. I think it is very clear from your posts where most of you land in that equation.

I don't disagree about inequality, but this is a difficult to impossible to stop function of the insane demand for Taylor Swift tickets. Face value tickets were expensive, but not outrageously priced; it's just that way more people wanted to go than could ever be accommodated. It's a long tour with lots of shows in big venues, and there's still enough demand on the resale side to lead to crazy prices.

To answer the question, our HHI is $175K and I saw Taylor. I was lucky enough to get face value tickets from a friend of a friend, so the real cost was about $1000 when you factor in flights and hotels, for me and a friend to see the concert and spend two days in Nashville. If the cost of the tickets had not been face value it would have been too much.

It is possible. Sweden has a law that limits ticket resales to a certain percentage of the face value. That’s why the Stockholm resale prices were reasonable.

This is not true. Her father was a wealth manager. At times he did well. She grew up MC and then UMC. Her father was not rich if by rich you mean 10 million worth. In fact he was close to broke when she started. That is why he had the time to manage her. She did not grow up rich. And there was nothing to fall back on.

I live in Arlington, but not the richest parts, so we’re rich for Americans but pretty middle class / average for NoVa. No children I know went to see TS live, but many of us took our kids to the movie. We even dressed up, made bracelets, and took an Uber black to make it a special night. I do know some adults to travelled to over cities or countries to see TS.

However on my FB feed, many middle class families I know from lower cost of living areas took their elementary age kids to see TS in smaller markets like Pittsburgh or Detroit. Perhaps if I lived in a place where modest 3k sqft house cost $400k instead of $1.5M, I’d drop $5-6k on a weekend trip and a concert too.

Wrong

Lots of friends I know got tickets from $100-500 on the initial presale -- $200-400K HHI.

Others of us weren't so lucky (including my family) and decided to get resale for $1K-$3K each -- HHIs are $800K+ and $5M+ net worth. Lots of biglaw parents in this group.

I think a lot of people have extreme FOMO over the Taylor Swift concerts.

It's kind of like Disney World. It's overpriced and everyone complains about how expensive it is. Yet most families will go once, just to say they went.

I know several ppl flying to Europe for a couple might trip to see her. If you can get flights on miles, and a cheap hotel room, her tix are much cheaper there. I know 2 going to Portugal and 1 to Ireland to do this. Fwiw.

Seems crazy to me but I’d never spend thousands on a concert.

I got super lucky and got tickets 2 weeks out for like $200 a ticket. They were good seats. From what I understand they were the seats that came available once they had a better understanding of the set up and there seats were originally part of the possibly blocked section. We were not blocked at all.

I tried getting tickets when they first went on sale but missed out. I was not going to spend thousands on tickets.

This is all about how you prioritize.

I want to take my daughter so so bad. I have been looking at resale tickets even nosebleeds at any US destination are around $3,000 with all the fees. The greed of the resale market is just to much. I really wish there was a limit to what you could resell your tickets for. I would even pay double but paying $3000 for $300 tickets is just more than I can stomach. I did try to get tickets but I didn't go crazy creating 10 different Ticketmaster accounts. I guess I should have.

Rich people who want to spoil their kids and idiots who will soon be separated from their money are the ones paying this kinda money. I'm not paying this much, ever for a concert. Heck, the other day someone we were meeting after a long time wanted to catch up and go to a Irish dance show (the one where they lost the book on how to use your hands while dancing). $50/ticket. No f'in way I was going to sit though 2 hours of that if it wasn't free! My net worth is in the 8 figures.

Im taking my daughter to Edinburgh. We just bought 100 level seats for 400 each. Over and back, will be a whirlwind, once in a lifetime adventure

Went to Stockholm along with many other Americans. It was a whirlwind, once in a lifetime experience I Deed. PP, you will have a blast! Btw, our tickets were $150 each for the 100 level.

My friend's husband makes 6 million, she dabbles in part time work, and she went to 3 TS shows. I mostly hang with people who make under 400k and no one else I know has gone. We all took our kids to the movie instead.

I said this above, but Sweden (and maybe other European countries) limit the amount a resale ticket can exceed the face value.

Doing this in the US would probably end issues with bots.
