Trust me when I say that neither you, nor your money, will be missed.

doctors and academics are going to start leaving these states or not considering them at all

so while you might think people choosing to avoid colleges is silly, get back to me in 5-10 years when the full effects of the draconian laws being passed are actually felt

Oh, you'd love to believe that, wouldn't you.

In 2022, the top-10 inbound move states are:

Texas
Florida
South Carolina
North Carolina
Georgia
Tennessee
Nevada
Maine
Delaware
Idaho

The top outbound move states are:

California
New York
Illinois
Pennsylvania
Massachusetts
Washington
Colorado
Indiana
Michigan
Wisconsin

Families are starting to move to South Carolina. These students that want to go to in-state schools will end up at South Carolina and Clemson.

The demographics of the state is changing. thus the demographic of the in-state public schools is not the same as it was years ago. A lot of the comments here are outdated.

OP, South Carolina is actively trying to get more kids from this area to help their stats and rankings. They offer great aid as well.

Oh, good - they can start complaining about all the Yankees like their neighbor to the north ;p

Just hope these families have read the fine print on the political situation

If your DMV kid gained admission this year, what were stats and what did you decide?

Last year, not this year. DS gained admission coming from a DC public, 4.4W, 11APs. Was given in state tuition to UofSC. Went elsewhere.

Imagine how disappointed South Carolina will be if a bunch of DC area libs don't want to move there, lmao.

Would a DMV kid be less culture shocked here or Clemson?

Anyone know how they convert FCPS grades to South carolina grades, especially for in-state tuition consideration? For example, the lowest level scholarship that gives in-state tuition reads as follows. I don't think a 4.5 kid from FCPS (or anywhere) is shooting for South Carolina nor have such a low SAT score.

"In 2022, recipients of the Superlative Award had an average SAT score of 1425 (ACT score of 32) and an average high school GPA of 4.5 and were in the top 10% of their high school class, on average."

My suspicion is no

Same question.

Why is it worse at USC v the other schools in south including Clemson. Doesn’t make sense that year after year it would be worse.

Oh, yes, because suburban DMV kids are so, so sophisticated.

I’m from Columbia, and I’m all about recruiting blue state immigrants to dilute the prevailing craziness in SC.

What PP would like no one to realize is that 42% of South Carolinians voted for Biden, despite everything that the GOP could do to prevent Democrats from voting. SC used to be a purple state and can be again.

Dd has a friend at U of SC who is finding it too large, Clemson probably would have been a better fit for her, but it is a harder admit.

It is, by all accounts, a great school that will be a fit for some, and not others.
The problem with UofSC is it doesn't conform to the (hypocritical) standards of the DCUM hive mindset. It isn't HYP, etc. It doesn't need to be.
It is a state flagship university, with the #1 International Business School in the nation.
It is a SEC school with a fun sports atmosphere. The mascot is the "Gamecock." Which is very publicly shorted to "Cocks". If that offends you, I guess you should go somewhere else.
It is in a "southern red state" (gasp). But Trump has been out of office for over two years and was recently indicted (maybe time to find a different bogey-man). I'm not sure how that impacts the university.
There is racism everywhere (not just South Carolina, yes, even in your DCUM "safe" enclave, yes, even at HYP, etc), and that is absolutely wrong and terrible. But that also doesn't mean everyone there is a racist. The vast majority (guessing 99%+) are not racists.

Go visit. If it fits for you, go for it. If not, enjoy your time somewhere else.

? That's ridiculous. yes, usnwr is ridiculous.

How else would you like to determine the quality of its business school?
