Ugliest College Campuses

Anonymous
RIT has been trying to break out of the Top 5 for nearly 20 years now, with no success.

No way. GMU has a nice campus. Have you been there in the last 15 years?

My daughter and I visited GMU last spring break. It is nothing to write home about. I don't know if it's among the ugliest, but nothing great. Loved the robots, though!

UCSD… well it’s got some ugly buildings… but you can’t beat the location!

I like UCSD, but my son was actually awestruck by the buildings, his big complaint was that some of the new dorms weren't in the spirit of the place.

I forgot about UNLV. Stayed at the Hard Rock so we checked it out...bland concrete with palm trees.

You're an outlier whose views are likely shaped by something other that any sense of design or aesthetics. So give yourself a cookie and move on.

No, I really just don't like the look of the buildings. Find them depressing.

I get that other people have a different taste in campus building/architecture/aesthetics, and that was why I said this was a personal thing.

FWIW, not sure what is so wrong with UMD. They apparently don't like the brick or something?

Maybe a bad pic but doesn't look that great to me.

Me too. Before it was even called Camp Snoopy. Sadly torn down last summer.

The brick is a little darker than I prefer, but I think the buildings on a quad having the same brick gives a campus cohesion. My alma mater had similar style with slightly lighter brick and makes it on "most beautiful" lists frequently

Sounds like you just prefer brick buildings to limestone, since you dislike Duke and VaTech but have no issues with UMD. As you said, it's a personal thing.

Yeah it's pretty ugly, though it's pretty impossible to keep any plants or trees other than palms and cactus alive there.

People say that but I think it's really lovely. My nephew's dorm is on a hill that has a beautiful view of the sunset. There are rolling hills and farms all around. Seems nice.

I grew up in NC and everyone always talked about how ugly the Duke campus was. Everyone.

Isn't IU all limestone and people talk about how pretty that campus is?

As an added bonus, there are huge cattle feeding lots not far from the university. Three to four days a week, when the winds are right, you are enthralled with the smell of cow manure all day and night!

Red Raider Alum here - born & raised in Dallas but lived in DC since 1997. Oh how I remember what the winds would do and the dust storms. I guess in hindsight it was not a pretty campus but I don't remember thinking about it at all at the time. Was having too much fun!
