Kids who literally live next door to Einstein are walkers assigned to Einstein.

Thanks for stating the obvious?

Opens up some space at Einstein for the western part of Kensington to join the eastern part there, and then BCC could pull some of the southern portion of Walter Johnson. And Bel Pre elementary (that I believe currently feeds to Einstein) could go to Woodward along with schools from further west in the county.

Bel Pre feeds to Kennedy and is nowhere near Woodward.

Closest DCC schools to Woodward are Viers Mill, Sargent Shriver, Wheaton Woods, Rock View, and Oakland Terrace. Rock View is almost all walkable to Einstein, so it won't be rezoned.

Wrong. Walkable has nothing to do with MCPS boundaries.

No, you're the one who's just plain wrong about that. Walkable is a factor in boundary studies.

What about those that live next to Blair but zoned for Northwood

They're in the Northwood walk zone.

So it either cross the street to go to Blair or walk 1.5 miles to Northwood. Yes I know the exact distance since I use it as a running route all the time.

Disagree. Crown is opening much later, and there are development plans which may change the makeup of the area.

When you have urban density, walk zones overlap. Other factors can then rise above that one.

Which parts of Kennedy's boundary could be impacted by these new schools?

Anonymous wrote:Seems safe to assume Churchill will be included in Crown study then.

It should. Some neighborhoods that are zoned for other clusters are actually closer to Churchill, or equidistant or just over 1 mi difference.

Blair is an unusual case since it was originally in DTSS and there are no other HS in SE moco.

That would be

Woodward: B-CC, Blair, Einstein, WJ, Kennedy, Northwood, Wheaton, Whitman
Crown: Gaithersburg, QO, RM, Northwest

A total of 12 high schools, out of 25 total.

Plus Damascus, which should include Clarksburg and also Gaithersburg, which increases the total to 14.

Well, that would certainly be ambitious. I'm happy that my last child is graduating next year, enabling me to ignore all of it and redirect my time and mental energy to something productive, like maybe reading all of Proust in French.

IMO, it's not a waste of time. It's passed time they did this.

It's ridiculous to have under enrolled schools adjacent to over enrolled schools, and then keep expanding the over enrolled schools. Now that's a waste of money.

Blair's new location and its boundary are not related.

Walkable in the MCPS-defined walk zone sense. They are not going to rezone a kid who currently walks to school to ride a bus to another school. They will focus on rezoning current bus riders.

Correct, so if you live within the walking distance (1 mile to elementary, 1.5 miles to middle, 2.0 miles to high), but you are a bus rider, and it's extremely important to you to not get reassigned, you should focus right now on removing whatever obstacles make you a bus rider instead of a walker.

DP.. we live 1 mile walking distance to one HS, but zoned for another that is 2.3 miles walking distance, so the kids have to take a bus. We will be part of the Crown HS rezoning. It will be interesting to see if they make all neighborhoods within the walk zone but currently bused back to walk zone even if makes the the schools less diverse.

To clarify: Blair moved to its "new location" in 1998.

True. And its current boundaries were drawn in 2004 when Northwood reopened.
