Yes but APE is not just a Facebook group. They registered last year as a lobbying group. So what they say and do is quite different than if they were just a FB discussion group, which they are not.

Very impressed with Maggie but her background sounds a lot like Mary and Bethany. I think we need someone with strong budget fundamentals and willingness to buck the group think. In that sense, Miranda has clearly proven that she will wade into controversy, lol. Where was Maggie during the pandemic? Did she take a viewpoint on the most critical issue facing our kids?

Could you post some specifics? VMPI was a hugely unpopular hot mess that started with the express goal of not doing any accelerated math until 11th grade, that’s why they backed off of the initial ambitions.

That's the way Mary Kadera was about McKinley disappearing. Didn't stop her from getting on the Board.

That is true up to a point. Mary K was McKinley PTA president at the time- and she represented the McKinley viewpoint- Mckinley was more caught of guard then Key, and there were other options- moving ats to mcKinley was not the only viable option.
In contrast- Erin was part of the keep key on key movement for years. My memory on this issue goes back a long time- multiple times aps planning staff tried to engage the Key community about the need to move and get them to work collaboratively on a location. It was very clear for a long time that they needed the Key building as a neighborhood school. Erin was part of, if not the leader of, a group of parents who treated the staff with contempt and mocked them for even trying to raise the idea of a move. She absolutely refused to consider the validity of any of the data the staff presented about the need for a neighborhood school at the Key site, and she was extremely dismissive of any Key parent trying to suggest that we should be open to a new location. She was absolutely caught up in groupthink about it- talking to that group of parents was like talking to a buzz saw.

I wouldn’t hold that view against Erin, as there were strong opinions on both sides. Key Immersion and Science Focus were initially created to ensure demographic balance in the Lyon Village through Rosslyn neighborhoods after a decade of middle class flight from the public elementary schools in that part of the county. Key served that purpose well until recently. Change is hard for neighborhoods and stakeholders. The HB Woodlawn community certainly didn’t want to move, but they eventually did move to Rosslyn, and the Stratford Jr High building is now Dorothy Hamm MS. . . . I’m looking forward to hearing her and the other candidates’ views on the current issues.

Holding a perspective is one thing. Rude and off-putting behavior and approaches to push that perspective is another, and is not a good characteristic for a SB member.

She's put in a lot of time over many years pretending to be a Democrat so she can win a School Board seat in Arlington County? That doesn't even begin to make sense.

She is a lifelong Democrat. The fact she agreed with the Democratic President that school closures were wrong doesn't make her a Republican, unless you think AOC and those to the left of her are the only true Democrats.

Whatever she calls herself, she has aligned herself with a group of people who are anti-mask, anti-CRT, pro-voucher, pro-Youngkin, Ian Prior, APE, Asra, and even a few anti-LGTBQ.

You are correct that APE doesn't publicly take a stance. They have perfected the art of saying oh we're a big tent, while allowing in all of those people and then not taking a public stance

For instance, APE has in it an extreme pro voucher member, and also an extreme and vocal anti LGBTQ member who lead the movement against the inclusive pro trans APS policy. Also, APE had a lot of members against masks last winter during the surge, so they very noticeably did not support masking last winter when almost every other group did.

Turns out they were right about masks. We all got it anyway and now no one wears masks.

You can’t hold someone responsible for what other people in a diverse group do. It would be like assuming you have all the same opinions as someone because you are both members of the same PTA.

I do question the judgment of someone to align themself - for years - with those people. Including people who were horrible to teachers, schools, and other parents.

I would denounce any harmful behavior towards teachers, parents, schools along with anti-mask, anti-crt, PDE, etc.
