I found this googling, it's from 2015 but clearly she knows what she is talking about when it comes to how to train and support teachers and instruction. Looks like she as at a title I school in DC. I agree, I would like to learn more... https://www.usnews.com/news/special-reports/a-guide-to-common-core/articles/2015/08/04/to-teach-the-common-core-way-schools-turn-to-teacher-coaches |
"Joyce and Showers' work landed on the long reading list that Maggie Slye drafted after being tapped to retool Washington's coaching program.
Slye, who has since become vice principal at Tubman Elementary School in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of the city, says that with Common Core coming, the District wanted to get more "bang for our buck." In 2011, Slye devised the new coaching program around a few core principles she saw as essential to good teacher training: It should be provided by an expert who knows what good teaching looks like, it should be ongoing so that a teacher gets training multiple times, and it should be tailored to each teacher's needs. While the specifics look different at every school, each coach typically works with eight to 10 teachers for six-week periods. The cycles start with a teacher and coach coming up with specific goals and plans. The coach then spends the next six weeks sitting in on the teacher's classes, discussing what worked and didn't work, and then helping the teacher plan his or her next lesson. How much one-on-one coaching a coach does varies greatly by school and teacher. In some cases, a coach is visiting a teacher's class multiple times a week, while in some schools, coaches are doing more group sessions with sets of teachers." |

^good stuff that we need in APS |
Yes but APE is not just a Facebook group. They registered last year as a lobbying group. So what they say and do is quite different than if they were just a FB discussion group, which they are not. |
What newsletters? APE newsletters? Those consistently have the best information about APS. Here's the most recent one - real RWNJ stuff lol. This poster is seriously mental. https://www.arlingtonparentsforeducation.org/enews/enews-february-21-2023 |
Yes, they frequently have inaccurate info and/or skewed interpretations. They were also pushing the GOP lies around VMPI. This has been discussed here and on AEM. Nothing new. |
Very impressed with Maggie but her background sounds a lot like Mary and Bethany. I think we need someone with strong budget fundamentals and willingness to buck the group think. In that sense, Miranda has clearly proven that she will wade into controversy, lol. Where was Maggie during the pandemic? Did she take a viewpoint on the most critical issue facing our kids? |
Yes, their group's positions are on their website. Less device time, learning loss recovery, higher teacher page. Real culture war stuff. LOL Erin's FB issues page looks like she cut and pasted from APE's website. |
Yes, discussed by the same group of crazies on AEM with literally zero factual basis. You have a grudge, which is fine, but can you stop derailing every thread? |
Could you post some specifics? VMPI was a hugely unpopular hot mess that started with the express goal of not doing any accelerated math until 11th grade, that’s why they backed off of the initial ambitions. |
He's 22, recently graduated from college. His resume screams politics and that is likely why he's immediately running for local SB. His interest is politics, not APS. |
Holding a perspective is one thing. Rude and off-putting behavior and approaches to push that perspective is another, and is not a good characteristic for a SB member. |
Smart Restart needs some purpose in life now that they’re irrelevant. |
Disagree. She will have great difficulty shaking the APE connection and turning the minds of the self-righteous, enlightened AEM folks. On the other hand, if they are really a quiet minority, based on her competition so far, maybe you're right. |
I would denounce any harmful behavior towards teachers, parents, schools along with anti-mask, anti-crt, PDE, etc. |
