Even if the family never indulges in racial or ethnic slurs and promotes respect for all religions and cultures, I imagine some teenagers fall down the rabbit hole of the dark side of the internet. They get influenced by conspiracy theories and who knows what else.
Unless a student physically defaces a sign on MCPS property or says something offensive at school, I don’t believe MCPS has the legal authority to punish the student.

MCPS punishes no one. In cases of bullying, harassment, and assault, most of the time it is the VICTIM who ends up leaving the school.

They just sweep everything under the rug and kids know it and continue to do what they want. It is embarrassing.

MCPS's job is to educate. If laws are being broken, it's MCPD's job to deal with it.

If this was any other group being attacked you’d say differently. Mcps has an obligation to make all students feel safe. They need to expel these kids.

No I wouldn't. I don't think it's the school systems job to enforce laws.

Why MCPS is not calling cops for drugs, fights which happens every day in pretty much every school?

Plenty of kids I'm told have cell phones. Reporting or even recording crimes to MCPD shouldn't be an issue.

Except they cannot if it’s not safe for kids who want to learn.

“40% of students at Columbia and UPenn are now Jewish.“

“2.2% of US adult population has some basis for Jewish self-identification”

Should we be drawing swastikas on school grounds? Hell no. Should we have an open discussion around the systemic issues that are leading to one group being so remarkably over overrepresented and the level of suppressed antagonistic thoughts that may be brewing under the surface and leading to these aggressive behaviors?

Let’s see how the board responds to such a thought.

I mean these stats are remarkable.

I can't even express how angry this post makes me. Are you trying to justify anti-antisemitism by saying that people are aggrieved that Jews are "over represented"? Kind of like "we brought it on ourselves"? Thank you for trolling in typical antisemitic tropes! Pathetic-you sound paranoid and jealous on top of blatantly antisemitic.

Check your comprehension. - different poster

Their comprehension is just fine. Hate crimes against Jews are always tolerated.

There’s minimal consequences for bullying in general. Antisemitism in MCPS is just another form of bullying. Principals have ignored complaints for years even when the official paperwork is filed. Principals are groomed by MCPS to do an “investigation” then state no evidence of bullying was found.

I've read that restorative justice is far more effective so I think that would be a mistake.

Great, so you read it more effectively and you believe it so our kids have to go to school in unsafe situations because of what you read and want to believe. Restorative justice is a discussion between the two students. The kid who was attacked/bullied gets revictimized having to discuss it and being forced to forgive and its a teachable moment for the bully/attacker who continues to do it as there are no consequences at home or school. They need to open up a special school for these kids and after multiple incidents you get sent there. Or, expelled. Enough is enough.

If the hate crimes are against some groups they take it seriously, but they never will against Jews and Asians.

Are their parents really talking about how much they hate Jews around the dinner table? Do they get unrestricted access to the internet? Are parents totally and completely absent? I'm struggling to wrap my head around it.

I don't think the kids who do this actually hate Jews. I think they just do it to see the reaction it gets. Stupidity not hate.

100% this

It's interesting that adults don't understand this. Kids used to shock adults with: hairstyles, clothes, music, smoking, tattoos, piercings, drugs and sex. Now it is a free for all where you literally cannot shock adults even when you want to permanently cut off body parts. So of course kids will gravitate to the few things left that are considered sacred and will illicit major adult reaction: racism, anti-Semitism and homophobic slurs, oh, and of course, gun violence.

BINGO. Certain kids will do whatever it takes.

“Now everyone will know who I am.”

Let that sink in.

It’s not about you.

At our high school, everyone seems to be an equal target - black, brown, Jewish, female, LGTBQ, etc. At some point, every student either is a target, bystander, or the perpetrator. Bullying is not ok but MCPS hasn’t addressed the problem because of its knee jerk reaction to ignore problems when they are reported. This gives students the green light to bully. What’s the consequence at school? Nothing.

MCPS needs to do more than letters and speeches. It takes action to solve the problem.

Are you the mom from the Woods thread saying the boy who made the homophobic club is probably gay.

Can we get it straight that school is not called Woods. It’s Wood. No S.

Because it’s people who probably don’t even have kids in MCPS who come on here and push a progressive left-wing agenda.

Woods Academy is a private school in MoCo. Wood MS is the school in the other thread.

Yep. And another incident today. But don’t worry, we’re having a community listening session to talk it out in a month.

Well, when they watch the idiots from January 6th with a lot of them skating off with little consequences.... that sets a precedent. They are learning that people do not care about minorities from mainstream media. Just think about it...
