This is a real threat to National security. They are likely testing biological warfare.

Hanging out over Montana where there are US nuclear missle silos. And they are buying up US farmland at an astonishing rate.

it's the size of 3 Metro buses.

DoD is tracking it closely, and they have extensive capabilities for detecting nuclear/biological/chemical agents.

I am not a conspiracist on anything. I do happen to be scientist. And I do think this is not good.

I'm not a fool to believe this was an accident.

Our country is bogged down in crap while I think this is one is a major national security event. That with the huge amount of farmland China has been buying up over the past 2 years. And, hey, we are even banning chinese made tik tok.

Americans can keep fighting over themselves about stupid issues while the enemies slowly move in.

Best not to keep your head in the sand over real sh*t.

Agreed. Furthermore, it’s doubtful Democrats will do much of anything meaningful to upset the Chinese Communists.

The Chinese confirmed it is theirs.

And that it's civilian research airship that accidently went off course.

It reminds me of the Hunt for Red October, when the Russian ambassador keeps trying to sell new stories about why a Russian submarine is on its way to the US.

I have a few bridges to sell you.

You really are taking CHINA on its word. My god.

Sorry, I should have indicated my first sentence was sarcasm. I don't believe a word the Chinese gov't is saying.

What we need to do is to send a retired combat pilot and alcoholic crop duster up to blow that thing to hell.

The Pentagon will be all talk and zero action about this. Just watch.

I hate to tell you this but Trump already gave away everything important in terms of National security.

Republicans will have Russia on the ground owning the US with China in 2025-2026. Keep voting for them people this is where we are headed. Don't think it can happen HAHAHAHAHA Look at the House of Representatives.... shit show

You're kidding, right? Biden increased sanctions on Chinese companies like Huawei, ratcheted up support for Taiwan, is working to re-establish a US military presence in the Philippines, and is giving China far more pushback than Trump ever did.

What specific action is the most recent meaningful action our current White House has done?

More like southestward. It's spent much of its time adrift over bumfuk nowhere with no intel targets of interest. HYSPLIT model is currently showing it will drift south of DC, toward somewhere south of Virginia Beach. And what kind of nut follows Benny Johnson on Twitter? Dude's a total loon.

You didn't bother to listen to the spokesperson for the pentagon.

HE was the one that said it is moving eastward.

And, it is not "drifting." As the spokesperson said, it is "maneuverable."

I'm an avid China watcher, and I find this interesting, but not a crisis. The Chinese are doing much more provocative things-- buying farmland near sensitive sites, as a pp pointed out, for one-- than flying an old school surveillance balloon.

I do think it is possible China is attempting to bait us into conflict, because they have a lot of interest in conflict RIGHT NOW while the iron is hot. Any conflict with China would likely be in the South China Sea and involve control of Taiwan. But, the deck is stacked in their favor right now bc we have been irresponsible in maintaining our Naval fleet, we are engrossed in domestic and international conflict, NATO is busy, etc. And for China, if they wait, we will have refit our Navy, they will in the midst of a prolonged chip shortage (which ends if they take Taiwan), and a population crisis since there will not be the right male/female ratio.

So I think they are trying to bait us. We should either ignore the balloon or jam its signal and feed it with disgusting images. They didnt retaliate when we bombed their embassy so we can call it even.

Embarrassing! 🤦‍♀️

I would expect the US public to get very little details. Of course.

Of course the Pentagon and White House are not going to report what they know or plan to do.

Duh!!
