Would never have gotten away with this in PG. If they weren't thrown out by PGCPS, the other students would have made their life unbearable. |
| I feel for my friends of color in SPHS. Most kids are welcoming and inclusive but there are the few that really make it known how they think…there’s some adults too. Some just can’t hide their true colors no matter how much they try. Many of the teachers even notice it and talk about it. |
| I graduated from SP in 2018. I was on the Girl's Field Hockey team and there was a big incident you can read about on the WaPo. The administration specially the assistant Principal Bill Smith was a sexist bully that threatened students and parents. He was transferred quietly to Glen Burnie. While the school did not publicly accept responsibility for the actions of this individual, a school board executive told us that he was taken off the principal's list, as he was supposed to be the principal at Crofton. I still have contact with some of my teachers and plenty of people in SP. This guy was transferred back to SP. He is loathed by many teachers and students. He must have something on someone in the school board... |
| I think this story ^ is a prime example of why teachers are walking away from the profession. You can't win a game that exploits people and hold high officials without responsibility or consequence. |
| I’d be curious if the new principal or superintendent has actually made any changes as a result of this incident or if it has just been all talk. |
| All talk...the problems are just drawn out and never resolved! |
| Didn’t the principal get replaced |
Yup - SPHS has a new Principal this year. The old one was moved to a middle school, which I can only assume is a demotion for a principal. And so far I really like Dr Bedell - he's implemented some important changes around things like cell phones and grading this year. It will be interesting to see how/if the culture starts changing at SPHS and other AACo schools. |
Agree for a hopeful year ahead for SPHS after the mishandling of previous situations in the past that Arbuzzo was present for. Or else SPHS will continue to be more and more backwards in terms of culture. |

Kids have been making fun of cripples and tards for thousands of years. Most grow up and learn that punching down isn’t the best look. You will never make a rule that eliminates this and to act like it is a harbinger of being a serial killer is borderline hysterical. Make the kid volunteer in the sped classes, suspend for a short block of time and keep it moving.
This is just a bunch of jealous oversensitive Karen’s lambasting the richer school because they are sick of being looked down on. I guarantee this kid is more hurt by being ignored and stared at by the rest of society and some idiot with a lack of impulse control. It’s not like the rest of the community embraces them the rest of the time. |
Now do national level politics.... |
Nobody is jealous of Severna Park, many of us live in neighborhoods where the median income surpasses the highest earning household in Severna Park. I could sell my house in Bethesda and move there tomorrow if I wanted to do so. Severna Park is full of middle-class boomers who think they're rich because they banned apartments in their zip code and have no poor kids in their school as a result. Newsflash, not poor =/= rich. If Severna Park was in Montgomery County, you guys would become the dumping ground for all the apartments and MPDUs that people in Chevy Chase don't want and you'd be seen as rednecks. Maybe after that, you all would be able to finally humble yourselves. |
Don’t they do that by default in PG |
The kids’ parents have finally found the thread |
He wouldn't even have gotten away with it at many other county schools. It's really just Severna Park. |
