My mom is like this. She gets my kids steiff toys instead of what they actually ask for. Growing up I never got anything I wanted or even needed, just things that were expensive and for my mom. Like instead of a journal I’d get some business folio from a French designer. Instead of a backpack for back to school I’d get some designer bag meant for my mom’s demographic
