Mar Vista is a wonderful option that I didn't see listed.

Yes. 100% agree.

Other people are more discerning.

Pacific Palisades (beautiful homes and it has a nice walkable “town center”), or Santa Monica (all around decent city). Maybe Beverlywood (closest to Century City).

Santa Monica if you can afford it.

This is OP. What about Redondo Beach for our family? Seems more in line with our budget compared to West LA, and some decent schools in the area. Only drawback I see is commute to West LA area.

The commute can wear on you but people do it.

Whatever google maps says the commute time is, double it for reality.

would not do that direction commute. The 405 going north in the morning and south in the evening is just heinous.
Stay on the westside to preserve your sanity and quality of life.

Pacific Palisades! Great schools and the best young family community.

The Palisades are great but out of reach of most people.

Not if you rent a condo or a townhouse they're not. As discussed above.

My sister had a budget under a million and they looked in Torrance.

Redondo Beach. Morning Commute is showing 45 min on map app.

And Waze. But evening commute is an hour. That’s too bad. My friend has lived there since her kids were 2 and now they’re 18. Good schools and nice beach.
