Long commute to century city. Doesn’t anyone read the OP? Plus, it’s unpleasant in Burbank/Glendale.

If you can find a place in your price range, Hancock Park is great. There are some smaller homes (others are giant and $8M).

I don't think you have a clue. Both areas are really nice, with families and good schools. Actually they are heavily Armenian communities, so if that's what you mean by "unpleasant" you're a racist.

Also, I have friends who moved from Arlington to El Segundo and have been really happy with their neighborhood

Cheviot Hills is lovely but there's no store / grocery/ cafe etc for literally miles, so it's a 100% drive only neighborhood which can be depressing.

If that's your criteria, you'll want to live in a place like Westwood south of Santa Monica Blvd, where you can walk to Westwood Blvd to the west, Century City Mall to the east and Pico Blvd to the south. I don't know many people who regularly walk to the grocery store in LA, though. If you really want to avoid that, just shop at Gelson's in Century City Mall before leaving work for home and you don't have to rely upon being in comfortable walking distance to a grocery store for the neighborhood you choose.

I have lived there, Rancho Park. Walkable. Also Santa Monica itself is totally walkable.

Santa Monica has the promenade, the farmers market and the beach of course. I used to live at 4th and Pico and only used my car to leave Santa Monica but for everyday living I walked or rollerskated

They need to increase their budget or live their life in the car commuting FAR for something decent.

Get a decent condo in Pacific Palisades for the schools and save on private school tuition and commute

OP here. Now some of these posts have me thinking about Pacific Palisades. Our budget obviously wouldn’t go very far in the PP. Would we fit in with the community if we are a family of 4 in a condo as a you suggest? Are most families in SFHs? Condos/townhomes are the norm in Playa Vista but I’m not as familiar with PP.

There are families everywhere in PP, SFH, townhouses and condos. We know a family who moved down from Winnetka just to benefit from the schools and lived with their 3 kids in a 2 bed condo for several years in the Palisades.

This is helpful. What schools specifically are they going to? Aren’t the public schools in PP part of LAUSD?

Yes, they went to Marquez. It's a highly rated ES as is Palisades ES

I think your family would fit in PP attending public and parochial schools.

Glendale is one of the top 5 safest cities in the US. I would not live anywhere else if I had the choice.
