Where to live in LA area

Culver City is not "nice" its dirty and industrial, a sort of no-man's land between the nice houses in Cheviot Hills and Rancho park.

What about La Canada Flintridge? Would that be a crazy commute to Century City? The appeal in La Canada is the public schools. We wouldn’t have to worry about trying to find a private Catholic for the kids.

Also, I have friends who moved from Arlington to El Segundo and have been really happy with their neighborhood

? Happy in El Segundo?

I lived in CA for 40 yrs, 25 of it near El Segundo. Maybe it's changed since the 90s?

100% Santa Monica. If you can’t afford Santa Monica, try Westwood or Culver City.

You can though, it's huge, not all of the rents are high (only for the Franklin ES district) and if the kids are going to private you can be in the other ES catchment areas. Most people in Santa Monica rent too - something like over 65%

Agree with Cheviot. If you do that, look at St Paul the Apostle for schools.

Also, Playa Vista isn’t a bad choice, OP.

$500k is tough, so you’ll have to be open to condos.

Cheviot Hills is lovely but there's no store / grocery/ cafe etc for literally miles, so it's a 100% drive only neighborhood which can be depressing.

For miles?? This just isn’t true. It does feel tucked away, but the positive side of that is you’re protected from homeless encampments. It’s easy to get to shops. Everyone in LA drives anyway, and you’re close to major corridors.

You don’t know what you are talking about. I live there and there is a Vons and Starbucks off National that is a ten minute walk. Ditto the Metro.

$500k is the salary, not the housing budget

You are extremely rude. I lived there myself for 5 years, I know exactly what I'm talking about - a 10 minute walk is not close. I am happy to walk 20-30 minutes where I live now but in LA nobody walks 10 minutes to anything

$500HHI. I actually don’t think that’ll be tough, particularly if they’re selling in Bethesda and have a decent down payment

NP. Not rude, matter of fact. Don’t take it so personally.

This is OP. Any good parochial school recommendations around Playa Vista/Westchester area? Thanks!

"you don't know what you're talking about" is ALWAYS rude unless you're a hick.

Clearly, you have a bias against Cheviot Hills and Culver City but your comments were erroneous. Do better.
