I’m far more likely to be injured or killed in a car-related incident in this city than by violent crime. As a matter of day-to-day quality of life, focus on how to make streets safer for everyone is a much better use of time and energy than increasing the number of police. |
And yet, they keep getting re-elected. Maybe they are listening to the majority of their constituents? |

Since when is Joe Biden a progressive?
You all really have Fox living in your head if you think "the progressives" are ruling the roost. And frankly, I will take universal healthcare over evangelical fascism 7 days out of 7. Why do you prefer fascism?
The progressives in DC and NYC spent the past two years pushing for bike lanes. All while Rome burned. If the ANCs used half the time they spent on bikes instead on schools and crime this would be a world class city. Instead it’s been two years of bike lanes and weed dispensaries. The Ds will now suffer generational losses at the polls. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/04/politics/eric-adams-new-york-crime-midterms/index.html
What, exactly, do you think ANCs can do about schools and crime? They are not the mayor, they are not the school board and they are not the police force. I will be very interested in your response.
They could hold up the upzoning, which the mayor wants, until schools etc is addressed. Instead they traded that for bike lanes. It's the exact same lever.
+1000. But most of the ANC reps don’t and will never have kids. They literally have no idea what a crap show DCPS is and how they could help their community. All they want is these ridiculous bike lanes and pot dispensaries. Please go back to Petworth and live your progressive dreams. FFS.
It is also important to consider how many of these childless ANC commissioners will even stay in DC over the short, medium or long term. A decent percentage of ANC commissions from 2012 don’t live in the city any more. Imagine applying that sort of short-term decision making focused on yourself as a temporary, young, single and childless resident over the needs of long term residents and families. https://www.dcboe.org/dcboe/media/PDFFiles/nr_849.pdf
If you didn't run for ANC and are making these kinds of charges and hyperbole, then you are the problem. How is it that in competitive races, the people who favor density and bike lanes keep winning? It is rather a question.
Because most of Ward 3 are hard working two professional married couples. They don’t pay attention to the ANCs or the city council for that matter. In a one party town you just need 25 signatures to gat on the ballot. That’s not a mandate, son. Just because you got a participation trophy in 3rd grade rec soccer doesn’t get you on the varsity team.
You think there aren't hard working people in all the other wards? You think the people on ANCs don't have families and jobs? I guess you are too special to understand that the people who do this actually care about their communities and want to help other people. But that isn't surprising coming from someone with your salty outlook on things.
That's hilarious. They substituted their own desires for that of their community. It's not their intentions people are questioning. It's their judgment.
And yet, they keep getting re-elected. Maybe they are listening to the majority of their constituents?
No. Vote totals for ANC races are measured in the dozens. Prior to this, and for their entire history, ANCs stuck to zoning and noise complaints. Please don't pretend that ANCs are equivalent to legislators. |

| The Woodley-Cleveland Park ANC is mostly somewhere between a clown car and a freak show. |
Matt’s a nice guy but bends like a reed in the breeze. |

So, who is everyone voting for?
Me: Krucoff for Council and Siqquh (sp?) for ANC commissioner |
Krucoff, the Republican, opposes the Connecticut Ave bike lanes. Siddiqui is the strongest proponent of them, although many of his constituents (who love on the side streets near Connecticut Ave) are afraid of traffic diversion. Siddiqui claims to be a progressive, but he’s strongly backed by Cleveland Park Smart Growth’s Bob Ward, a Republican operative who was Donald Trump’s pollster (and the business partner of the Willie Horton ad creator). Siddiqui recently Tweeted that of all the endorsements, the one from Ward/Smart Growth “matters the most to me” and he promised Bob Ward that “I will not let you down.” |

No. Vote totals for ANC races are measured in the dozens.
True, but misleading. ANC candidates in Ward 3 received hundreds of votes. Technically you can measure to 700 by dozens, sure, but normal people don't do that - they say hundreds. |
I think the PP was referring to the SBOE race. IOW, ma'am, this is a McDonalds. |
I agree. Unpaid Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners are to blame for the red wave happening this year. |
this is sarcasm. |
Given that the CP Smart Growth steering committee wrote the endorsement and the steering committee includes several people not named Bob Ward, calling Siddiqui not progressive for being supported by CPSG is quite the stretch. |
Their progressive ideas are absolutely THE cause of the red wave. They brag about the 60 meetings they’ve had on bike lanes, but have had Like one meeting on crime and zero meetings on school quality. Completely clueless about what the majority of their constituents care about. |
The "60 meetings" you cite were specifically meetings about the bike lanes. Some of those were ANC meetings, others were neighborhood organizations or DDOT itself. |
