| I’m very thin and can eat bread and pastries without gaining weight and never count calories. Happy to buy older baked goods at a discount sometimes. Sorry about your weight issues and calorie counting! |
| Bread for stuffing, pudding, bread crumbs, croutons, and toast. |
| Me. I grew up poor and I'm a good cook. I also cooked in restaurants where I learned to see that food= $$$. Now live in Bethesda. I refresh the the baked goods. I also buy high-quality organic meat that's close to expiration and make use of our chest freezer. I will not buy feed lot meat. If you think expiration dates on packages are real you have been fooled by the man. |
Not you, apparently. Why do you care what others do? |
| It's tempting because they look fine... but the texture and flavor is always lacking. Why eat 500+ calories of sweets or carbs if they're not that great. |
I lived in Brooklyn after college and made $20K. I used to shop at the really great middle eastern bakery and buy bags of their older pitas—I think a bag was like a dozen for 60 cents or something. I used them for pizzas and all sorts of things. The middle eastern grocery was also really good for cheese and bulk olives. I also did double couponing at the regular grocery and walked around the store to figure out what was on the deepest discount. I learned the hard way you’ve got to give that discounted meat a really good smell test. |
| Two words: bagel chips. |
Poor people work in expensive grocery stores and buy their day old products. Open your mind, Becky. |
NP People who think it is a bargain and is good enough if you just warmed it up in the toaster. Some people love bargains and don’t care about calories. |
| The same people who buy second hand bras and sneakers at the thrift store |
High School kids love thrift store. |
Because 500 calories isn’t going to kill me. Or make me gain much. That’s why. |
Well, it does add up if you do it day after day. So, it can kill you..slowly |
Who said anything about doing this daily? |
| Day old bread is what I want for things like French toast, bread pudding, soups, etc. You must not know how to cook, OP. |
