Who buys the day old and 50% off items at the bakery?

When you bake in your own home is everything consumed immediately or over the course of a few days?

Yes. Isn't that true for every family with kids? When I bake, its gone in 24 hours.

Uhh, no we don’t tend to eat an entire pan of brownies in 1 afternoon. Maybe you have a larger family though!

I buy day old bagels all the time. I freeze them on the second day when I buy a fresh dozen anyway so it’s functionally the same but half the price and reduces waste.

I do all my own baking aside from bagels and some of it definitely lasts a few days before being consumed/frozen.

I do. Our bagel place has a bag of day olds for $8. 6 would be $12. I’m going to freeze then toast them anyway so it makes no difference to me.

In a large family like mine all baked goods are gone in a day.

I buy day old bagels all the time. Even if I were to buy a dozen fresh bagels, it’s not like we are eating those dozen bagels the same day anyway.

My mom does. She’s middle class but grew up poor and really searches for bargains. She has a large deep freeze in her garage and freezes sale stuff. Not just bakery items but meat too.

I do! They taste great.

We do and I love buying it. No, we are not poor in case you are wondering. Safeways have quick sale items for 1.99 or 2.99 and i love picking them up

Poor people don't live in affluent neighborhoods and shop at expensive bakeries.

Um ... how much do you think the people that work at the bakery and neighboring shops make? Or are they only supposed to go back to their home neighborhoods and spend their grubby dollars there?

DP. My poor neighborhood didn't have a bakery. We bought plain white bread in the supermarket.

If someone from there went to physically work in a wealthy neighborhood, do you think they never would have looked into any of those stores?

Bread freezes well. You can put a fresh loaf in the freezer and just pull out what you need.

The freezer dries bread out.

I have purchased many loaves of bread at full price at the supermarket that had mold on it shortly after bringing it home.
