I used to shop at the really great middle eastern bakery and buy bags of their older pitas—I think a bag was like a dozen for 60 cents or something. I used them for pizzas and all sorts of things. The middle eastern grocery was also really good for cheese and bulk olives. I also did double couponing at the regular grocery and walked around the store to figure out what was on the deepest discount.
